Nice music, but...
I brought a group of 11 people here to celebrate an occasion. The atmosphere was nice, with music playing, but the waiter was very aggressive, ordering us around. He gave us a hard time on ordering appetizers and he couldn't keep straight the orders when he brought them to us. At the end of the meal, he brought us the check with tax and tip added up. However, he added on a 20[%] tip, off of the after tax bill. This is not the tradition (people usually add 18[%] on parties of 6 or more, on the pre-tax bill). I went to ask about this and both the waiter and the manager were very unresponsive and frankly mean about this. We decided that the waiter did not deserve the full tip and left only 11[%]. Upon leaving the owner ran out and accosted my party forcing some of the people to pay an additional amount of tip. Am I wrong to expect that a waiter should earn his tip and moreover should not try to rip off a large party by over charging on the tip? Never going here again!

pleasantly felt at home and welcome
Stopped in for a beer and resting of tired feet. Jen and Carla, the owner were truly down home and hospitable. Enjoyed talking with real people who enjoy what they do. Jen knows her beer selections better than most. stayed longer than planned , did not want to leave. Will come back from CT. to enjoy soon. Piano great, always playing!

fantastic
I wandered in to this place yesterday afternoon after roaming the streets and trying to find my way round the Village for something interesting to eat. I am new to NYC as of 1.1.07, and this is the first place to really win my heart. The food was great, the waiter was just friendly enough, efficient, and made just enough conversation. The price on my spinach sandwich and Pellegrino was a little high, but this is New York, right? Actually, I would expect to pay the same amount for a nice lunch back in Houston. In a nutshell: warm quiet and welcoming atmosphere, great service and delicious bistro food in Greenwich Village. I'm hooked! I'll be back to try the mac and cheese!

A haven in the village
The Bistro offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of new York City, the staff are friendly, it has a warm atmosphere and the food is good, honest and home cooked. There are no pretenses at the Bistro, what you see is what you get, great food, great beer, and great local artists. Tres bien.

Not recommended
After a $27 dinner here, I had to go next door to Joe's Pizza to fill my stomach. The $15 shrimp "entree" was barely the size of an appetizer. Masquerading as the vegetable medley was a fingernail's worth of diced carrot and squash, stirred into the meager scattering of rice. Mediocre white wine, no bread, but plenty of attitude from the one waiter who serves all the tables. I guess I should have listened to him when he recommended the burger. At least that's supposed to have 8 oz. of meat. The live music promised at 6:30 didn't materialize either. I remember liking this place a few years ago, but I am unlikely to go back.

Accoustically unfriendly place for Live Music
The food was not proportionate to price. They didn't have enough glassware, so every glass of wine I ordered came in a different type of glass - even though they only serve wine and beer! And apparently there was one wine list as it was taken from me and I was told I couldn't hold on to it while I dined. Though they advertise a music series of live performers you're more likely to hear the bartender. I heard more about some guys railroad apt. in Bushwick, then I did the performance, and the Pianist was ony three feet away from me! At one point I stepped out to have a smoke, and the bartender and her three patrons still seemed to be trying to out volume the performers! The producer asked them to quiet it down a bit, and they only got louder! The service was alright, and the decor is cute, but I won't be back.
