I usually go to the Green Kitchen for brunch every Sunday. And I like it because its that happy medium between diner and cafe. The menu is pretty extensive and I have to say I haven't had a bad meal there once. I understand what some of the other reviewers here say about the service. Sometimes its hit or miss but I go here so often that I just laugh when they get it wrong. One thing I really do have an issue about though is the cleanliness of their restrooms. I've been to more pleasant toilets in bars on the LES. I think it may have something to do with the hoards of elderly folk who like to go in on Sundays (sorry!).

when i first went to green kitchen I thought the food was terrible and service was even worse. They have redone the place and made it into a great diner.

The easiest way to sum it up is that if you're willing to put up with the incompetence of the waitstaff and the management of the place, you might get a good meal. Phones don't get answered when calling in and tables aren't serviced by the waitstaff while eating in. The food is good, I only order from this place afterhours because of the service.

Food is okay, but, inconsistant. Many of the waiters are unattentive, or just plain rude. I only go there if I'm too lazy to go somewhere else.

I love the green kitchen. The remodelled upgraded cafe style diner is to my taste as it is most of the food they serve. I usually go there nights and I feel I am in a well managed place , where you can comfortably relax and eat. I rarely call for outgoing, have no op about it, but I wouldn;t hesitate to eat-in.

Went to Green Kitchen for Sunday brunch. Granted, it was the NYC marathon day so it was crowded. We sat after a 5 minute wait, which wasnt bad at all. My boyfriend and I picked out what we wanted to eat and then waited...and waited..and waited. We had no one ask us if we wanted coffee or take our order. While we were waiting, 2 tables seated near us got up and left because the same thing was happening to them. We finally saw a waitress walk by and I asked her if she could take our order. She didnt even stop to say anything, she just shook her head "no" as she went by. That was the point where we got up and left, hungry and angry, after 20+ minutes of waiting to be acknowledged. As we left, I told the hostess what happened. She gave us a measly "sorry" and didn't seem like she cared. Don't go here!

They've gotten pretty mean at Green Kitchen. I used to dine there all the time, but all of sudden the GK attitude has changed. When ordering by phone for delivery, I've gotten short, curt responses and been the wrong soup twice. When I ate-in last week, I ordered one dressing for my salad, and got another. When I asked for the one I wanted, I got not only attitude but I was told I was wrong! My boyfriend's omlette was really greesy and over-cooked, but the waitress told us that's the way the cook cooks it!! I know GK has been on the UES for years, but they're going to lose patrons if they keep the 'mean kitchen' attitude.
