Great American Health Bar

For somewhere that has "health" in the name, you would think a veggie burger would come fresh. Not this one...DEEP FRIED. Every bite was an oily, burnt tasting disappointment. I would've gotten a big mac had I known it wouldve been the same amount of calories. I have ordered from here previously and been disappointed as well but it was convenient.

Something for everybody. Portion size is good. Would go again if I visit NY.

Honestly, “The Great American Health Bar” is my favorite place to eat in Midtown. The staffs are very friendly and the service is quick! While they do not serve any meat or poultry, their menu is large and filled with delicious options. The spinach burger is fantastic and unique, and the pastas can’t be beat. Occasionally, I’ll even just stop in for the American Glace, which I cannot find anywhere else in the city. I highly recommend this eatery who loves to eat healthy food.

The menu looks great, right? Great reviews, right? No problem, right? Wrong. I called to place a delivery order and was appalled with how rude the woman on the phone was. It was a simple order of a salad and a smoothie, and I asked a question about the price because the prices online were different than what she was going to charge me. She raised her voice and started yelling at me, as if I was a moron and was somehow supposed just accept the discrepancy in prices with no explanation. I immediately canceled the order and she hung up on me.

I was delighted to spot this place on West 57th Street, on my last v isit to NYC. My new dietary needs almost mandate a place like this. Moreover, I was delighted to read on the front door: "Under strict rabbinical supervision." Initially I was a bit uncomfortable being one of the few non-Jews there. I kept my Pittsburgh Steelers hat on as a Umukle to show respect. And I enjoyed the white fish salad and veggies. I'm planning a return visit in the spring.

I've been going to the Great American Health Bar since 1985 and I still go almost every day for lunch and many times for dinner. The food is outstanding, great quality, and healthy too. It's unbelievable how diverse the menu is and there's truly something for everybody. I personally think their Spinach Ricotta Panini is one of the best dishes in all of NYC. Their Salad Bar is also of the highest quality and can't be matched. Love this place!

We were overwhelmed by the smell of cleaning fluids while waiting for our food. We had to move to get away from the order. The manager was unconcerned about “our” problem.
