I agree "Be very careful with bill even for take out"

Whenever I order take out, the bill is always a dollar or two more depending on how much I order. I called once to rectify the bill and the lady who answered, said it was tax (more than 10%). When I ate lunch there, each dish was charged a dollar more, when I inquired about it, the lady was so mad and said that each item is separately taxed. Its a shame they do this but the food is very good.

    Be careful with your bill

I went to the restaurant twice in the last two weeks. They made mistakes twice in my bill, with one dollar more in a dish every time. So just pay more attention to your bill...

    the delivery is disappointing

This is standard chinese food, good but nothing special, but their delivery service is poor. the delivery guys are not nice, they are never happy with any tip amount you give them and they leave the bag on the floor, can't even hand it to you. There are so many places to get take-out from, this restaurant is going to be off my list pretty soon.

    Best Sichuan in Manhattan

Simply one of the best Chinese restaurants in New York. At the moment, the chef is particularly good (2011). I wish I knew other places this good, even in Chinatown. To rate my dishes: the sliced conch with wild pepper sauce is heavenly. (better than the same w hot oil.) cured pork w garlic shoots is dry-sauteed dish to beat all others, barely any sauce, as it should be, but fatty off course bc its bacon. sauteed bitter melon is a personal favorite, and hard to find, but ask for very dry/ little sauce. for a very fresh vegetable option, add sauteed pea shoots with fresh garlic . The service is brusk here and atmosphere nonexistent, but for authentic Sichuan food, there is no better choice.

Great food - but NOT a place if you're looking for 'atmosphere.'

I noticed several reviewers complained about the 'rudeness,' etc. This restaurant - voted one of the best - food-wise, is a grat 'hole-in-the-wall' type, located on midtown Manhattan's east side. If you want great Chinese food - either order at the counter up-front, or call. But, this place has no frills. It's a place to eat. Lunch-time (about 12n) is when Grand Sichuan fills up - and fast. the clientele is made up of in-the-know office workers from the area, and Chinese-chinese. The staff is not that of a typical 'family-friendly' restaurant. They're there to take your orders - quickly. At a restaurant like this, it's best to know in advance what you want, dawdling over the menu here is not the way to go. This place's menu is quite extensive - and there's much to explore, BUT, as I said; try to be prepared. There's no bar - beers only, so if you're looking for a mixed-drink 'liquid lunch,' forget it. Keeping that in mind, you will have a great meal.

    Not recommended

My online order did not go through, so I opted to call the restaurant for delivery. 1) Rude woman answered and abruptly took my order. Rushed me through and hung up quickly before giving me the total. I still had up the screen of the total (with tip) from my failed internet order, so that was the amount I prepared. 2)Rude delivery guy. He was upset with the tip amount and was loud about it. Echoed through the entire building. I almost had to SNATCH the food from his hand! I closed the door in his face. What the other reviewer said about the vegetable fried rice being lame, it is true. It was white rice with just a FEW vegetables mixed in and no flavor whatsoever. I will never order from them again.

    Better than last time

My wife and I went here last night (Friday) and ordered the spicy chicken cold dish appetizer, the shredded duck with ginger and the steamed fish with minced spicy pepper. The dishes came spiced just the way I like them: almost as spicy as when we are in China. Came to $64 incl tip and one beer, which is typical for decent Sichuan food. Chicken had lots of minced peanuts and was a good balance of flavors. Fish was very good blend of sour and hot as hoped for. Duck was slightly over done and dry, however. Food came when it was ready (as expected) which was not all at once (chinese style, which I actually prefer, not American style). Service was attentive and efficient (but that may be because we speak to them in chinese) and the restaurant was not at all crowded. Surprising, because I considered the food to be quite good. We will go again, and try other things on the menu.
