near perfect experience but the host????

everything about the food and atmosphere is sensational - the server -Sam is probably the best of staff I have had in all 15 of the three star restaurants I have dined in over the past two months. My downgrade as to their service relates to their hosting staff. I still don't know why the restaurant was overbooked as it seemed as if there were available seating - I wondered why when we were 15 minutes late (their phone was too busy to call), it was torrential rain outside, that we still had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Then I lost my eyeglasses, came back to ask by detailed description of color and style for them and was first told there was nothing, then when they opened the drawer, they found them and I told them they were indeed mine (in fact, I knew so because they were slightly bent and fit the exact description I had given them. I placed them on my head, confirmed that they were mine and the host made me wait as they had to check to make sure they had not been there for days and might not be mine. Certainly this was a bit preposterous - why in the world would someone claim eyeglasses that were not theirs - These were prescription eyeglasses, not reading glasses which are very inexpensive but a corrective pair post - Lasix. I certainly can appreciate the need to be more secure about a valuable item - but who wants someone else's eyeglasses. The dessert is almost three desserts in one. The appetizers were exquisite and varied in choice. The lamb entree was great but the vegetable combination for the Mahi Mahi was Brussel sprouts -

Whenever someone comes into town, I always take them to Gramercy Tavern for lunch. They always have a great fixed price menu for a reasonable price. This place is a definite must for everyone!

    one of the best

I've eaten at the tavern numerous times & have never been disappointed. Food & service impeccable. - no reservations at the tavern, so I would suggest getting there at a decent (early) hour...if there's a wait, the bar's not a bad place to pass the time. This is a culinary institution.
