Gracie Mews Diner

Gracie Mews is just your run of the mill diner. Nothing special. However, I found the portions to be on the small side and the staff to be cold and unhelpful. Be aware that you can't get Eggs Benedict on a weekday!

Maybe it was just our timing, but we had an unpleasant experience here. Not only was the service slow, the food was pretty bad. I ordered a fried egg, and it came scrambled. When I brought this to the waiter's attention, he said "It's still an egg, what's the difference?" I had to CONVINCE him to get me what I had actually ordered! He then grumbled the rest of our time there, and was really slow with getting us our check. Definitely not worth it when there are tons of other diners (where you probably get what you ordered!) around.

I lived for years at East 81st St and enjoyed quite a few late night/eraly morning meals from Gracie Mews. I remember the building going up around 1980, but can't remember what was on that site before. Was is a block of brownstones or what? That neighborhood changed so much, with the closing of Mrs. Herbst's, Rappaport's Toys on 3rd Ave, etc.

I LOVE their Mediteranean Salad - arugla toppped with TONS of grilled vegetables, TONS of tender grilled chicken and just enough mozzerella cheese pieces. SO great!!! Great place even if you go alone and sit with a book.

Gracie Mews is a great diner. The food is very good (diner food), and the place is nice, clean and open. The chicken dishes are terrific (try the rosemary chicken), breakfasts with fresh squeezed orange juice are good, but the prices are getting out of hand. This used to be a great value, but it no longer is. $16 for a cobb salad is ridiculous. I find that I go much less frequently, though the place still seems busy.

Of the reviews that I've read it's not all that. I thought maybe fireworks would just illuminate the room as I enter while I was being fed with red grapes & being worshipped. No..It's not really all that. It's pretty good. It's very convenient. Less than 30 seconds away from the house. The service was alright. I didn't have the best experience so it was alright.
