Going Downhill - both service and food
I used to enjoy going to Grace's Trattoria for lunch. I could count on a fresh salad or a savory plate of pasta with friendly service. Unfortunately something has changed. Lately the food has been spotty, with dishes that I used to like coming to the table thrown together in a slapdash way. Worse still, the service has been distinctly more snotty. It really got bad last week when they brought me the wrong dish and then blamed me when I complained! I was rather shocked, since normally restaurant staff are taught to apologize and quickly correct the error, but that was not what happened. That experience impelled me to write this review, since I am really disappointed in what's happening lately at this once-reliable restaurant. I hope they correct whatever problems have beset the place, and stop blaming customers for their mistakes!

great food and even better service!
I stumbled upon Grace's about a month ago with friends for a friday lunch. The restaurant was beautiful and had a nice atmosphere for lunch with the girls. Our waiter Peter was fantastic as well. He recommended a great and reasonable wine for us to share. I has the turkey breast and brie panini which was to die for. I generally don't eat fries but couldn't help mysef because they were so good. Thru out the meal our waiter was attentive and really friendly. The food was enjoyed by all and the bill was more that we usually spend but everyone admitted it was well worth the money. The ladies will be lunching again at Grace's!

A Rehearsal Dinner Dream
My husband and I recently had our rehearsal dinner at Grace's. When we arrived, the room was perfect. Soft jazz was playing in the background, the lights were dim, and much to our suprise, the tables were decorated with personalized menus and yellow and white roses. We placed our orders, and the meal began promptly with our salad course(a choice of mixed mesclun greens or classic caesar). We had a choice of 4 entrees(salmon, NY Sirloin, Parmesan Crusted Chicken, or Lobster with Pasta). Our meal concluded with platters of assorted mini-pastries. All my guests complimented the food and service and continue to call and email with thanks and appreciation. We had a perfect evening. Our parents were delighted to pay the very reasonable bill as it was much lower than expected in comparision to what other establishments had quoted. We look forward to many more happy meals at Grace's-our neighborhood's best kept secret. Thanks again Jill and John.

Highly enjoyable
I had made reservations at Grace's for some friends and I and became concerned after reading a review on this site saying that the service was horrible. We went anyway and I am very happy that we did. Our service was great, as was the food. And the "buttery" pasta dish was delicious. I have found a new favorite restaurant.

Good Food Poor Service
Never have I reviewed a restaurant before, because the great ones speak for themselves, and I honestly have never been to a restaurant with service or food so poor it was worth complaining or spending time to warn others. My Grace's Trattoria experience last night, however, was bad enough for me to write a review here. I went with 5 girlfriends for a nice dinner to relax over wine, good food and good conversation. From the moment we sat down, we knew our waiter was going to be a nightmare. He was rude, inconsistant, pushed the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu on us when we ordered a more modestly priced bottle, reccommended a dish to two of the girls I was with that he later admitted he never tried, when they told him how they couldn't eat it because it was soaked in butter and smelled and tasted like buttered popcorn (on the menu this dish mentioned nothing of butter). He interrupted our conversations incessantly, and when we paid the bill (we left a 15% tip rather than the 20% or more we would normally leave) he looked inside the "bill book" and said" Is this it on the bill, is my gratuity included?" HA! All in all he was a nightmare and while other than the pasta reccommendation fiasco, the food was pretty good, I would never go back there or reccomend that anyone else does because of the service

Excellent
This is a great place. There is no shortage of Italian restaurants in this city, but this place stands out in the crowd. The food is incredible and the service is great. Great ambiance. Try the mussels. They can't be beat! Other menu favorites are the Chilean seabass and the cowboy steak. Great wine selections as well.

Great all around!
We went last night (Saturday) with a party of 6 and all had a wonderful time . From the moment we walked in (our table was waiting for us!) to saying goodbye everything was just right. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The specials were delicious and the service was the best. Our waiter was very attentive and was there for us eventhough the room was crowded. The atmosphere is laid back...not noisy like most of the 2nd ave places, and you could actually have a conversation with your friends without shouting. The room had a very cozy and warm feel to it. Highly reccommended!
