Gotham Burger Company

My friend and I went the other day and were pleasantly surprised (wasn't sure what to expect). The food was good (I got the turkey burger, she got the hamburger), and the prices were comparable to non-Kosher restaurants. I'll definitely be going back!

Gotham Burger on Amsterdam Ave. has the potential to provide all things to all folk at a very reasonable price. The food is delicious, the late hours and sports bar are terrific. However, the place only opened recently and needs to find its legs -mainly good and speedy waiters and service. I have heard that the restaurant will soon expand its kitchen which should help with the speed of getting food on the table and should eventually enable home delivery. Do they cater too? Good luck!

We ordered to go last Wed. night and again (hoping for fewer glitches) this afternoon at 1:00 (opening time). Wed. night, we ordered the chicken wings, glazed short ribs, avocado grapefruit salad, and chili. Got home, changed and cooled down to eat. Though Gotham had properly charged us for our order, they gave us the wrong bags of food. We had now at home, instead of our order, a well done burger, french fries and chicken fingers. Gotham has no delivery and it was packed to overflowing. Only option was to go back to get our correct order. I did. Finally, we sat down to eat. Ribs were great - deliciously well seasoned and very tender - almost like the proverbial "melting in your mouth like buttah" - literally falling off the bone. The rest was not as good. Wings were tough and not particularly tasty. Chilli wasn't bad - just mediocre. And the avocado grapefruit salad had no avocado! Hostess Melanie was very gracious and apologetic and promised to replace it for no charge. But we were too tired to make any more food runs that night. Well done burger was in fact well done and moist which is often a challenge for many restaurants. Fries, however, were very soggy and oily and the chicken fingers were okay - i.e., some taste and not offensive - like the chilli, pretty mediocre. Both the menu pages and the waiters/staff describe the avocado grapefruit salad to be made with pomegranate seeds and candied nuts. In fact, there were no pomegranate seeds but rather sweet dried cranberries and no candied nuts but rather raw almonds. On the second try, this afternoon, there was avocado in the replacement salad but alas, neither pomegranate nor cranberries this time. The fried chicken from today (Friday lunch) was tough and excessively oily and instead of half white half dark as promised, there were only dark meat pieces. The well done burger we ordered was between rare and raw-on-the-inside. The onion rings were actually gross-they had so much oil/grease on them that the laminated paper containers were literally dripping into the plastic bag the excess oil. Needless to say, the onion rings were so soggy, we just each took one tiny taste and threw the rest out. Won't be running back there soon.

Was hoping for the best in the neighborhood...but it failed big time. I order food to go and the cashier messed up my order. I asked for the chicken, french fries, fountain soda and a slider. When I got home, my three pieces of chicken were tough and burnt. The chicken tasted like it was fried in dirty burnt oil. The box my chicken was packed in was full of grease. They didn't have the decency to drain and place the chicken on paper towels to soak up the excess oil. This is Fried Chicken 101 standard. The slider I order, well lets just say the bun was much much bigger than the burger. A few of the servers were nice but their food needs help. I won't be going back. If you're smart you will go to a Resturant in Harlem for fried chicken.

My husband and I love their Teaneck location so we were eager to try out the Manhattan location. The space is really cool and it's so great to be able to watch a game or grab a beer at a kosher place. The kosher restaurant scene has needed a place like this for a long time! They have my absolute favorite burger - always cooked perfectly. The fries, onion rings, and ribs are all excellent. Also, the fried chicken is awesome - this coming from a southerner! It's definitely a fun and tasty place to go with friends or family. They were really great about providing high chairs for our twins - something you won't find at some other kosher spots.

The place is certainly busy right out of the gate, and the hostess does a good job keeping people flowing to the tables, but there aren't enough waiters to serve the whole restaurant. After waiting a half hour for a table, we waited another 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order. Our table near the kitchen let us see that there were an excess of runners to bring food to tables, as they were standing around waiting, but they were not empowered to take orders. Once our order was finally in, the food arrived fairly quickly, which indicates that the waiters are the bottleneck, not the kitchen. The food itself was delicious. The kids loved the hot dogs, and the burgers were tasty and well prepared. The fries were outstanding. Also odd was that the place bills itself as a sports bar, yet at an hour when both the Mets and the Yankees were playing, most of the TVs were showing sitcom reruns (without sound). If they want to be a sports bar, someone there needs to make sure that when there are games happening, all the TVs are showing games.
