Not cheap, but SO WORTH IT

I had last eaten at Gotham about 12 years ago, and decided to try it again with parents visiting from out of town. We went Sunday evening at 6pm and the place quickly filled up. Everything we ate was mind blowingly delicious. This is not a cheap place, but we never felt like we weren't getting the very best possible food. The seafood salad was fresh and bright tasting - rarely is octopus served cold with such a perfect non-chewy texture. Lobster main was incredible (and they happily substituted side dishes to get the carb off the plate). And I loved the truffle crusted halibut. Service was attentive, one slip when he brought me coffee instead of cappucino, but i just decided to keep the coffee and it was excellent. We didn't have dessert - but were happy with the plate of petit fours - chopping each one up into tiny bites to share.

Perfection, one course at a time

My husband and I went to Gotham for the first time last night. Each course was spectacular. The scallops crudo and black bass and pineapple ceviche tasted PERFECT. The seafood salad was scrumptious. The main courses, lobster tails and steak, were unreal. The only thing I didn't really care for were the sides that the lobster tails came with. Flourless chocolate cake was beautifully paired with passion fruit sorbet. The service was very good, wine glasses were filled and each course was beautifully presented and came out at the right time. This was one of my favorite NYC dinners.I didn't find the service snotty at all....it wasn't overly friendly, but it was fast, courteous and error free. We thought the experience was worth the money.

I wish i could say better things

I went to Gotham on a Friday night with 6 of my best girl friends. Upon entering, the hostess was unhappy and unhelpful so that did not exactly set a great impression. We ordered a few bottles of wine, but were constantly asking for our glasses to be refilled. If they had left the wine chilled at the table, we would have been much happier. The food was presented beautifully, but we waited for atleast an hour and a half to get our entrees. They do however have very cute minature desserts! For such a highly rated place, I really found the service unacceptable (and i am usually not picky or pushy about service). The waitress was sweet, but VERY slow. The prices are relatively good for what you are presented with... It is a fun atmosphere with eye catching decor, but I don't know if I would recommend it-- especailly for a large group.

Don't Listen To The Person Below Me

Gotham Bar and Grill is great, and their management is warm, completely unpretentious, and accomodating -- far more than restaurants well below Gotham in price and reputation. I'm not rich by any means, and have always been treated like a king.... in fact, one of the things that keeps me coming back is precisely how gracious and "regular" the management is.

If you're rich Gotham is for you.

Sure, Gotham has a great/notable chef. I'll give them that much. Management sucks. They're very good at acting, just watch them while you're eating. They're all preposterous thespians in that place. The only good people there are some waiters and most of the bus boys. If you're loaded with $ you'll love this place. The food is good, yeah but do you really want to waste all your money in one night? You might as well make your own food and sit down at Battery Park and enjoy the view there.

    Great quality food

Went for a weekday lunch with my brother. Here is my impression: The food is cooked to perfection, presentation and service is outstanding. Plates well priced. Ambiance is classic and consist of grown up crowd. Consider ordering from the regular lunch menu, since the prix fix menu is very small; only 2 choices for app, entrée and dessert (one of them vegetarian). Overall a great quality restaurant!

    Overpriced wine and noisy

We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Sunday evening. The food was OK but no better than you can find at many others in New York. Pricewise the food was reasonable. The wine list is overpriced. The margin on their French wines was very disappointing. You get the impression they have decided that they want to make their profit on the wine. Charging more than $100 for wine that you can buy for $15-20 maximum in France and probably in New York is not good. The real downside of this restaurant is the atmosphere. Unless you go with a party of 6 be prepared to be drowned out by the noise of the adjacent tables. Definitely not the place for a considered relaxing dinner.
