Good Stuff is great stuff
I love this place. There are a few diners in my neighborhood and this one is a cut above. Some of the dishes are as good as you'll get in any trendy restaurant and the cocktails aren't bad either. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly and always make me feel like a valued customer. .

Respect for tradition
Thank heavens for a diner that has not fallen for the trendy faddism of these latter days. Where thick layerings of thin sliced roast beef are still moist and tender and portions do not require a microscope for examination. Where bread pudding is not only still available but has the richness and juicy gravitas of olden times and the well placed muscat raisins as well. The capacious tables and immaculate polish of the rest rooms are a definite plus as is the attentive service.

How to judge a diner
I am a half century Villager and have been going here since they opened. The food and service have been consistently good. I judge a diner by the shrimp and potato salad though the burgers and fresh basil frittata and tuna salads are great too. The shrimp is firm and you will find no minute pieces of shell as is often the case elsewhere. The potato salad is the best in New York: perfect blend of mayonnaise and skin-on nicely double quartered small potatoes. My pancakes and waffles were always good. The place and rest rooms are immaculate. The decor is huge murals and changing 30's colored-lights pastels and the immense tables are marble-like in their smooth lucite sheen. The service is prompt and pleasant.

Better diners in the area
First time I went there, my chef's salad had rolled up meat and cheese that had obviously been prepared at least a couple of days before hand. Edges were hard as a rock. No offer to do anything about it when this was pointed out, simply a shrug and "sorry". Gave it a second shot and had breakfast. Pancakes were ordinary, coffee not so good.

Not recommended
I went into the diner for breakfast. Outside was a board advertising specials. When I got my check, the food i was $3.50 more than advertised on the board. The waitress said, "oh, we're not using those prices!" I was visiting a friend who wanted to order from Good Stuff. I ordered a salad. It was not good. Third time Good Stuff, at same friend's again she orders from Good Stuff. I order a hamburger - it was also not very good. My friend always puts gravy, hot sauce or something else to disguiose the taste of the food at Good Stuff. She orders from them because it is convenient not because of the good food.

Finally, a great diner in the Village
The Village hasn't had a really good uptown type diner restaurant for as long as I can remenber. The foold is really well prepared, the service is friendly, the price is excellent, and the atmosphere is like an very good uptown diner. My wife and I walk by a number of other diners to get to it because it's worth going the extra distance for.

was better when it opened
It was great when it opened and has slowly changed for the worse. Screwed up delivery and took forever to send correct order and worst of all they lied 2x about the delivery leaving. Food also has been getting more and more regular diner food (bland) so I think they need to go back to where they were when they opened.
