    I'll miss it for breakfast

I'd say we hit GETE for a weekend breakfast about once a month, as it is right around the corner. I feel like I could probably make a better breakfast, as I love to cook, but I guess that is why you go out to eat - so you don't have to do anything! I love their homemade sausages, and the fresh OJ is great. The coffee is consistantly solid, and the bacon is out of this world. The migas always hits the spot, and the country cottage atmosphere just works. There is almost always a line, and as one of the previous posters noted - they could do a better job of being more gracious. Once inside the service is friendly at the bar but is definitely hit or miss when it comes to warmth. I realize they are busy, but I would be more inclined to tip if the attitude matched the homelike decor. GETE gets my thumbs up, and I will miss it when we move to CT this week!

    Above Average

Food was good but nothing special. We had the Lumberjack (pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon) and something with the word "Fiesta" in it (scrambled eggs with salsa on top of a tortilla) and a waffle. The strawberry and orange butter was intersesting. The cost is a bit high as are many places in the upper west. FYI: They require a minimum $9.50 order per person. Service was good. My date and I recommend the place but it wasn't much better than going to IHOP or Waffle House. Be ready to wait in line too if you go on weekends.

    Oh, the joy!

I would eat 3 meals a day here if I could - the lines to get in are just so long on weekends. Of course, I love the breakfast - the pancakes are truly amazing and there are also more healthful options. Mexican scrambled and turkey sausage is my regular order. I also like them for dinner - they have innovative dishes like a stuffed acorn squash - so good. Yes, the place is cramped, the service can be hectic and the door staff could be a little more gracious to those waiting, but the food is great. I won't wait 45 minutes in line anymore for a nightclub, but I will for this place!!

    Not so good enough...

Have to agree with many of these recent reviews - Recently ordered take out - they could care less that it took over 70 minutes to deliver and that the food was tepid and cold. I only live 4 blocks away....There are many better options - don't believe the hype.

Get wait to get back there.

If you like to eat and stand on a long line to get served, it's great. Not only is the food outstanding but, it's fun to watch as others eat while you are waiting on line. Excellent 6 AM breakfast on a Sunday morning. And yes, you get a free paper on the weeekends.

    Good enough for whom?

I have never understood the good reviews for this place. I think it's the lemming effect. I have eaten here many times over the years and I can't stand to go in there these days because the service is poor. The food is so-so. The fare at night is greasy and leaves a residue on the roof of your mouth. I want so much to support this owner, but in good conscience I cannot. She should open a bakery as the cookies and cakes are still good.

    A home away from home

One of my favourite spots, the staff are friendly and helpful, the best on the upper west side, and the food is fantastic. Sometimes a little pricey but always worth it. Be prepared to line up for brunch in the weekend, if you don't mind eating at the bar let them know, it will speed up the wait a lot!
