    Phenomenal Vegan Food

My husband and I ate at Gobo on the Upper East Side many years ago, and recently went out to celebrate my birthday at this Gobo location. My birthday dinner was absolutely fabulous. The food was so delicious and the presentation made it even more appetizing. The menu is extensive, and our favorites included crispy spinach & soy cheese wontons; homemade hummus with carrots, wontons and taro chips; roti canai; tender sliced seitan in ginger marinade and natural seitan medallions in sizzling spicy citrus sauce. They also have a variety of bubble teas, fruit smoothies and juices as nonalcoholic drinking options. The vegan key lime pie for dessert is not to be missed. The service was 5 star; never have I experienced a more attentive waiter in my many NYC vegan/vegetarian dining experiences. Highly recommend-go to Gobo for a fabulous vegan dining experience.

    Sad it's so loud

The food at Gobo is surprising tasty. 3 small dishes easily satisfied 3 of us. I took some carnivores here and they were really pleased. The only problem is that the noise precludes any real conversation . If not for that I would come back often.

    Yam Fried Heaven

I'd go back everyday just for the yam fries. Nothing like them anywhere else. Mongolian stew and squash risotto were also top notch. Our waiter was terrific, we enjoyed the ambiance, and unfortunately, left without sampling dessert because we were too full--and we had left overs for lunch the next day. Lots of hearty, stick- to-the-ribs vegan food.

    Superb!

I love Gobo! In response to the previous reviewer... the spring rolls they serve are served COLD! That's the point. They are not fried. The Vietnamese way is to serve them that way. The farm fresh vegetables are truly amazing. No, they won't melt in your mouth (what vegetables do you know that melt). They are very tasty. Nice choice of asian inspired dishes. Great atmosphere. Price is expensive but not nearly as expensive as restaurants around Times Square. This restaurant is much better than the one on the upper east side in my opinion.

    Steadily going down

Steadily going down. I've eaten here several times over the year. The time before last was a year ago and I left disappointed by the service and the food. I went again this weekend and it was my last time. Even though it was early and the place was nowhere near packed, the service was lax and more importantly the food was terrible. I ordered the Vietnamese Spring Rolls which arrived in about 1 minute flat, dried out and still freezing cold from the fridge. Considering how fast and easy to make these are, there's no excuse for this. Then I had the steamed vege dumplings. These should melt in your mouth yet they were so dried out and tough I could hardly cut them with my fork. Last I had 2 bite of the salt and pepper fried mushrooms which was greasy and super tough and fibrous. And the bill was about 4 x more then it would have been in Chinatown... This is not a cheap place. Don't go there until they up their game.

    rip off

west village gobo awesome last weekend for lunch, lunch menu offered, food was great and good portion size. today @ upper eastside they did not offer lunch menu, for $20 got 3 tiny soy rounds on crustless bread and coffee ($6!). it's tough being vegetarian on the upper eastside, that's for sure. won't go back....

    Best Vegan Restaurant Around!!

I've been to vegan restaurants all around the city, and this one is definitely my favorite. The scene is beautiful - great place for a night out with a friend or date, and the food is just phenomenal. My favorite dish is the ginger marinated seitan and go back for it again and again. I will, however, recommend going for lunch rather than dinner. The size of the dinner portions are the same as the lunch, only it costs $8 more.
