    A perennial favorite

One of the highlights of trips to the upper East Side to visit my daughter is a meal at Gobo. The food is imaginative and satistying and the portion sizes always allow for something to take home. Even though I am not a vegetarian - I just like the food! Although I have chaffed a bit at some of the prices, I have found the food so consistently fresh and delicious that I have never regretted the final bill. When the restaurant is full (which it often is), service can be slow but I have never found it to be rude. During a recent late lunch, the staff couldn't have been nicer to this obvious out-of-towner.

    Delicious!

A perfect vegetarian restaurant. I probably order from here twice a week and I'm no veggie. Great food, tasty and worth every penny. Chopped romaine salad is excellent along with the curry stew. Thumps up from the Brit abroad.

    Not worth it!

This veg. restaraunt is not worth the hype. The food is decent at best, but waaay overpriced for what you get. We were very disappointed in general. Avoid the pumpkin risotto.

    Go for it!

I went here with my friend for dinner and it was great! We got iced tea, which was extremely refreshing. The starters were small, but the 'large entree' was a perfect size. I ordered the bejing seitan and my friend ordered the seitan with tangy orange sauce...absolutely amazing! We finished our meals sharing a slice of vegan chocolate cake 'dusted with green tea'. The service was a bit standoffish...they didn't seem to go out of their way to be friendly...but the food did most of the wooing anyways. Great date place!

    BEST vegetarian food

I never find the vegetarian part, it's just GREAT food. the service is fantastic. i highly highly recommend the roti canai, the braised tofu with black bean sauce, and any of the stir fry noodles. it's just amazing. prices are fantastic! the food isn't greasy or overly salted. it's just perfect. for under 30, you can order everything i just named and that's during dinner! at the very least, try it out. if you have 20 to spare, just try it. the mango salsa scallion pancakes are also great

    Appreciation

While gobo is pricey, it is comparable to any other vegetarian cuisine (candle, blossom, etc). The decor is understated but i think that adds...sort of zen minimalism. The service is extremely attentive. The tables are quite close to each other and i usualy overhear the inane things customers demand of their food and their expectations from a restaurant are uncalled for at at times. But the waiters are always happy to oblige. Service can be a little slow some time but i think that is due to the customers demandng so much attention. The food is definitely unique. Some things contain protein when i think theyd be better off not. The roti canai and spinach roll and nori tofu are delectable.
