Food great, service frantic
We were there at lunchtime, and the place was about three quarters full.... menu was varied and reasonable priced... we had the hangar steak sandwich (delicious) and the crab cake appetizer (even better).....but the accompanying salads were tossed with nothing but too much balsamic....nothing else.... the totally irritating thing was the service....it could only be described as frantic....i have a pet peeve about my wine being served fairly soon after i order it, so that i can sip on it before my meal....jeez....we actually had to ask two people to track it down for us....we were sitting next to the kitchen pass-through window, and it became almost funny...two plates would appear and 5 people would swarm around them to determine their destination...the waitstaff was a flustered mess! .....all except the water/bread guy....he was really on top of it all and i even gave him a separate tip because he almost saved the experience for us.... bottom line, food was good but i wouldn't go back because it was too irritating

Wonderful
After seeing the positive reviews, I decided to try this place for myself about a month ago. I've since been back twice, and have plans to go a couple more times this month. Essentially, it has a nice quiet and private feel to it, which is perfect when you wish to enjoy a peaceful dinner with someone. The hosts and servers are always friendly and attentive, though I never felt that they were overbearing, and the place has a nice atmosphere to it. As for the food, I've tried a variety of things, ranging from goat cheese hazelnut fritters (my favorite appetizer), scallops, snapper, ravioli, and a penne dish with creamy veal bolognese. All have been excellent, as are their sorbets which they serve for dessert. Give it a try. You won't regret it.

Perfection
On the suggestion of so many wonderful reviews, I decided to take a friend here just hours ago. Walking into this serene space with friendly hosts and accomodating but not intrusive servers was just lovely. I had the mozzarella ravioli with a wonderful mix of spices to add just enough kick, while my dining companion started with the penne bolognese (fantastic) with a pork dish for his main. Everything was truly scrumptious. He was intrigued by the brussel spouts that came with the pork so he ordered it just as a joke, but even the brussel sprouts came out wonderfully caramelized and seasoned to perfection. The Devil's Lair white I chose for my meal had the most wonderful spicy finish and I closed the meal out with a s'mores bread pudding that was nice and light, not over-the-top sweet coupled with a smooth, velvety chocolate martini. One of the servers (not our own) came by and chit-chatted with us for a moment and was so pleasant and convivial as to add just a nice touch to the end of the night. Portions were huge, enough for take-home--a huge plus. And the place was buzzing but not obnoxiously busy or loud like some of the trendy places, with a couple of nice, large families dining post-holiday. What a lovely spot; I'm glad I read about it here!

One of the best in the city
I tried Giorgio's when my mom came to visit and was really impressed. The veal bolognese is incredible and the starters are equally good. The food is well priced and portions large for NYC standards. The staff are particularly attentive - I love that my water glass was always full. This place is excellent and has become my favorite Italian place in town. Try it out - you won't be disappointed!

Perfect
I was looking all over the city for a nice place to go with a great date, on a special occasion. For someone who is new to the city and new to the working world, I wanted to impress without having to give up my entire paycheck. Furthermore, I consider cooking to be more than a hobby of mine, but an art-form. I only consider a restaurant commendible if I could not make the same meal myself, and I could not make it for the price that I could buy it at the restaurant. Considering all the aforementioned info, Giorgio's of Gramercy is absolutely amazing. Their duck is incredible, their specials are to die for, the wine menu is extensive, reasonable, and delictible. The atmosphere is perfect for a date, whether it's with someone you love or someone you're just meeting. The service is wonderful, attentive, but not over the top. Anything else you want to know? Check it out on your own. It'll be worth it, I promise.

Shh.. it's a secret gem!
Normally I wouldn't want all of NYC to know my fave restaurant because I don't want it to lose its special flavor. Yet because Giorgio's is so incredible, I want it to stick around for as long as possible, which means I must get the word out about this place. The food is impeccably prepared, from the sesame-crusted tuna, calamari and pork tenderloin, to the mushroom risotto, divine coffee and warm chocolate cake, your meal will simply melt in your mouth. The service is warm and accommodating; the staff makes you feel right at home from the second you walk in. The prices are very reasonable, and they occasionally offer specials such as "$15 off any bottle of wine." The setting is romantic, dimly lit, with comfortable seating and quiet conversation, making this a great date place. It certainly isn't your typical trendy, chichi restaurant (the bathrooms are sub-par: an instant indicator for many New York diners), but the experience is nothing short of exquisite. Highly recommended!

My Special Birthday Place
I visited New York from the UK for four days to celebrate my 50th birthday. I happened upon this place somewhat by accident whilst trying to trace a place recommended to me in the Gramercy district. The whole experence was without fault, I am accustomed to good food and this was well up to my high standards. The wine list was extensive and the service first class. The final bill demonstrated that Giorgo's is not expensive.
