    Unpleasant Experience

We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and were disappointed when the maitre'd/ manager sat us in the very back corner of the restaurant- a cold, dreary space that is completely out of sight of the rest of the restaurant. There were several other empty tables, but when we requested any one of these, the maitre d' said that these were "special reservations". He did not elaborate on the differrence between our reservation and a "special reservation." After standing for several minutes in the middle of the restaurant, the maitre d' finally ushered us to a nice table towards the front of the restaurant. We sat back and relaxed and ordered a bottle of champagne. Then, just as we were just settling in, the maitre d' asked us to leave our table as he realized it was a "VIP" table and proceeded to seat us further back in the restaurant. We agreed to be moved as we didn't want to make a scene. But after he moved us, he never made eye contact or came to thank us. It was almost a cold shoulder which was very strange and very unprofessional, to say the least. To make matters worse, the maitre d' decided to have his own dinner with some friends at a table next to ours. Not once did he speak to us. It is unclear what the true maitre d's motives were, but it was quite obvious that he did not adjudge our party of four (two professional couples) to be appropriate candidates to sit in the front of his restaurant. Aside from the boorish behavior of the maitre d', the service of the wiat staff is, at best, indifferent. At least four different servers were involoved, and yet among them, none took the time to ask us if we needed anything. The only exception was one female server, who appeared to be the sommelier, who was reasonably attentive to us. One server cleared three of our party's plates while the fourth was still eating. Food arrived haphazardly and went the same way.

    Great food!

Excellent food. Good price. Brought some family in from out of town and they loved it. Its an expensive lunch, but you'll be full and it's worth it.

    We were surprised

It's a very lovely space with an appealing menu and we dropped in for dinner at around 9:00 on a Tuesday. The food was fine (not special but fine) but we could not have been less welcome. Ignored the minute we were seated - our order was taken - someone else dropped off the food - and we had to stand up and ask our original server for the check - those were all of our interactions with service. No wine refills - no water - no cheese - nothing. We were casually but nicely dressed and very low key/easy patrons - no reason to be ignored so disgracefully. We'll never go back and we'll steer people away. How disappointing. It's around the corner.

Great wait staff & thin crust pizza

A very busy & lively venue. We went on a Saturday & I was impressed with the excellent wait staff. All very nice & attentive without been over bearing. Our waiter helped us with a choice of wine & there was always some one on hand. Our party was a group who didn't know each other too well & the chattering atmosphere made our small talk tricky - but a great location if all know each other. Overall I didn't think that the food was really at the level that I would have expected. I am European & have spent several weeks in Italy & I wouldn't really say it was anything over what one could eat at some of the many excellent famly run places one finds there. The main party had the sea food platter & they all enjoyed the oysters. The thin crust pizzas are to be recommended as the one I had a distinctive & enjoyable taste. My main course was a little disappointing - presentation was good but the taste of the meat wasn't at the level one wld have hoped for. The wine range appeared to be approx. $40 & up . We had a nice red . Overall, it was busy but the food wasn't at the level to really make one want to go back for that alone.

    Delicious!

Went here with friends recently and thought the oysters were excellent, and the pizza was wonderful as well! A great find.

Great risotto - a bit noisy

The risotto is great. The fried artichokes are worth the visit. I have always had a good meal there and they have a very good wine list too. They have a number of fireplaces to warm you up on a cold night. The main problem is that it gets very noisy (what else is new in a NYC restaurant!) especially when there are big groups at the back and at the bar.

    Hyped..except for the pizza : )

I would have to say the pizza was excellent, very authentic and delicious. However my lambchops were not medium as orderd, but rare. Hard to cut/eat/tough meat. The bread was not refilled and the olive oil small amount, only on half the table which was large so some could not access. Basically I was disappointed but I have been to italy many many times for work (like 100) so I have high standards.
