    Won't be Back

Went to Giorgione with few expectations. Had the Day's Special Rose' (twice) - Delicious, $20/ quartino. Split the Tonno tartar w/avocado + arugula ($15). Avocado was over-ripe and soured the dish. Tuna was ok. Baby arugula, delicious, as was the dressing. Would not recommend it. GF had Spaghetti Peperonata, Day's Special, roasted yellow + red peppers in light tomato sauce ($18). Fantastic. I had Coscia Maiale, Day's Special, sliced roast pork leg with broccoli rabe and rosemary roasted potatoes ($22). Broccoli rabe and potatoes, superb - the pork should have never left the Kitchen and should have been tossed when removed from the fridge. Slices not fresh, meat was reheated (nuked/pressure steamed), raised grain pattern, very tough (seized @ reheat) and rancid. I politely told the waitress and it was obvious the dish returned to the Kitchen for review. Cool. She reported the price of the meal would be removed from the bill and asked if I would like something else instead. I ordered Bucatini all'Amatric, Day's Special, guanciale in a light tomato sauce. Pasta was perfect, BUT the guanciale was spoiled, and tough. Chef/ Cook should have realized this during prep and not included it in the Day's Specials. Ended with pannacotta ($9). So-so. Very creamy rather than gelatinous but without a hint of vanilla. Vanilla bean seeds adorned the top but had zero flavor, served with an okay mango puree. Conclusion - BOTH lousy entrees were of the Day's Specials, perhaps in order to move them out of the kitchen, as another day of storage might taint other items in the fridge. I don't believe the Kitchen was unaware when they demonstrate an ability to cook other items to perfection. It disgraces the owner, the Kitchen and the other staff members. For those who may believe this is strictly a preference of palate, upon leaving, it became clear we return home directly - if you get my drift. Other than removing the first entree from the bill, staff made no amends for failing on their gamble of serving spoilage. I gave plenty of opportunity (alt entrée, 2nd quartino, espresso, dessert). No one stepped up. Owner, Manager and Chef + 2 Cooks were on duty and none came to our table to reconcile the error or accept onus. Waitress was very professional, polite and considerate, though only able to follow the direction of her superiors. I do not fault her. As for the others, their refusal to put any skin in the game sets the tone. I will not be back.

    Very good

This was our first time here. Loved the food. The little fireplace as we entered the restaurant set the tone for a romantic dinner. Loved the service, simplicity of food tastes and value. Great neighborhood restaurant.

    First time here

We came for the raw bar since it was my husband's birthday and he loves that. We loved the way the place looked as we walked and were seted at a nice corner table in the back. The waiter was very personable and attentive. The food was very good, altho my fritto misto appetizer, which was a good sized portion, was the same size as my lasagne entree which was delicious, but rather small. We'd definitely go back, but I sure wished the restaurant would've taken note that I requested a birthday candle in my husband's dessert when I made the reservation!

    Great Local Restaurant

We love Giorgione. It is a great anchor restaurant to have in the neighborhood. Fine food and friendly service. I cannot understand the $$$$$ rating as the prices are quite reasonable for NYC.. $$$-$$$$ would be more accurate. Giorgione De Luca (of Dean & De Luca) is usually around and is a gracious host. The cosy fireplace and fine wines round out the evening scene perfectly HIGHLY RECOMMEND...

why is this place rated 5x $ signs??

i think that $12-15 for their pizzas is reasonable. Some of the best thin crust i've found in the city. This place quite alot fancier presentation however, perhaps the wine jacks up the price. I don't think it should be rated in the maximum category by any means.

    Disappointed

I'll try to be straight to the point. I requested a special table since i made the reservation 3 weeks in advance, i got a table in the middle of a row. The wine was good, but had to wait forever for the waiter to refill the glasses, the oysters were completely the opposite of how the waiter described them, the octopus was dry and chewy, a little burned, the ceviche was overpowered by the lime juice it came with. Everyone around us got bread and olives, we had to ask twice and only received bread. the risotto was prepared well, the steak tasted too heavy, and its presentation was not appetizing at all, just strips of steak thrown in the plate with some of the meat juice around it staining the plate. the waite never came by once to ask if everything was ok, or if we needed anything. the dessert was unimaginitive but not its price. I went to ths place because of the reviews i read but my expectations were never met, and that was extremely disappointed because i took my date there for his bday dinner. Overall im glad i had good company because the restaurant alone would have not made the evening memorable. I wanted so much to like this place and reccomend it but unfortunately i can't because of the experience. also there was a group of four people that were being extremely loud and inconsiderate, and when i brought it to the waiter's attention he said they were regulars there, so i guess we had to put up with them. Very unprofessional.

    always good

what a charming place. the food is great. and the service excellent. the staff is very friendly. the quality of the ingredients is excellent which is what makes the food here wonderful. the pizzas are excellent. the salads are all good. the octopus appetizer is wonderful. and the branzino is to die for! it certainly helps that the atmosphere is great as well with a roaring fireplace during the cold winter months. it is probably the best value in town.
