why is this place rated 5x $ signs??

i think that $12-15 for their pizzas is reasonable. Some of the best thin crust i've found in the city. This place quite alot fancier presentation however, perhaps the wine jacks up the price. I don't think it should be rated in the maximum category by any means.

    Disappointed

I'll try to be straight to the point. I requested a special table since i made the reservation 3 weeks in advance, i got a table in the middle of a row. The wine was good, but had to wait forever for the waiter to refill the glasses, the oysters were completely the opposite of how the waiter described them, the octopus was dry and chewy, a little burned, the ceviche was overpowered by the lime juice it came with. Everyone around us got bread and olives, we had to ask twice and only received bread. the risotto was prepared well, the steak tasted too heavy, and its presentation was not appetizing at all, just strips of steak thrown in the plate with some of the meat juice around it staining the plate. the waite never came by once to ask if everything was ok, or if we needed anything. the dessert was unimaginitive but not its price. I went to ths place because of the reviews i read but my expectations were never met, and that was extremely disappointed because i took my date there for his bday dinner. Overall im glad i had good company because the restaurant alone would have not made the evening memorable. I wanted so much to like this place and reccomend it but unfortunately i can't because of the experience. also there was a group of four people that were being extremely loud and inconsiderate, and when i brought it to the waiter's attention he said they were regulars there, so i guess we had to put up with them. Very unprofessional.

    always good

what a charming place. the food is great. and the service excellent. the staff is very friendly. the quality of the ingredients is excellent which is what makes the food here wonderful. the pizzas are excellent. the salads are all good. the octopus appetizer is wonderful. and the branzino is to die for! it certainly helps that the atmosphere is great as well with a roaring fireplace during the cold winter months. it is probably the best value in town.

    pizzza-pizzza

I was encouraged to make a reservation which i did 3 days before I went to giorgone with two friends. Confirmed the day of (Friday) and kindly asked the hostess over the phone that we would prefer minimal wait. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the hostess. The little fireplace was tastefully included in a decor that was not busy and made efficient use of space. We were promptly seated and various kinds of bread and olive oil were brought to our table. we started our meal with a quartino of wine (for me) which i was really loving in my palate. For appetizer we were served the Goat cheese salad and the green salad (with bibb lettuce) and a generous portion of both salads arrived. They were truly delicious! And for main course we certainly got pizza!! I got the bresaola pizza which was EXACTLY what i expected. i absolutely recommend it. My friends got the sausage pizza and the prosciuto cotto one. The portions were very generous and they left with bags to go. Very filling and satisfactory. On desserts, the tiramisu and the creme karamel were really tasty, whereas my varlhorna cake with icecream, SKIP it. the service was very prompt, our waiter was knowledgable, and he had a smile on his face. the space can be REALLY tight, as i was arm to arm with the guy next to me... i would NOT have liked that if i would have gone out with my boyfriend, or just on a date... too close for comfort :) other than that - pizza at giorgione is tasty from start to finish. The people are mostly locals and sometimes it can be a celebrity hangout. Good looking people relaxing and having a jolly good time. RECOMMEND it :)

    never got our table

This is a great restaurant so we made a reservation for a dinner with my boss. Big mistake. Booked 3 weeks in advance, confirmed that day, showed up at the appointed time and then we were told sorry, they overbooked, 4 groups waiting before us and they had no idea when we could be seated. I suggest you don't use Giorgione for an important event, or when reliability counts. You won't make a good impression. Otherwise, great food, decent service.

For who wants authentic italian pizza

This is the place to go for anyone who wants authentic italian pizza. I've tried so many in New York and am always disappointed. The pizza here is what you get in Italy - they must have convinced an italian pizzaiolo to bless their skills on the place. And they always make my favorite: the maccelaio with rucola and gorgonzola added. Other than that, the atmosphere is very nice if you sit in the front area, the risotto is not bad, and the coffee might be the best in New York as well. They also have pretty nice wines by the glass - you never find a vermentino by the glass, and I am always happy to find that they offer it here.

    Great Risotto!

Went here for lunch last month. The risotto was out of this world and the calamari appetizer was great, too. The service was a bit slow, but that's expected with a busy lunch crowd. It's a bit pricy but worth it for a great meal!
