    Trying...

Seems to not be sure if it is a true sit down place or a bakery. Service can be very confused. Excellent croissants, but pastries and cookies look prettier than they taste. A bit expensive and not very relaxing. I rather grab a croissant and go. Menu is a bit of an odd mix, too.

    Huge improvement

I've been going to Georgias for a couple of years now, and had the same problems with the service other reviewers have had. This past summer however, they hired a chef, enlarged their menu, and renovated their space to seat more people. Service is still frustratingly slow, but much friendlier these days. It's become my favorite brunch place, because the food is just fantastic. Highly recommend the Eggs Benedict and the Huevos Rancheros. All the pastries I've tried are pricey but delicious. You get what you pay for. Be prepared for a long wait for everything though, it's always crowded lately.

    Great dinner - great food!

I went here with my boyfriend for dinner on a weekday and we were completely blown away. Calling this place a cafe is misleading- it should be a restaurant. We shared a branzino, which was amazing, and came back again the next week because we enjoyed the food so much. The second time around we ordered a sauteed duck- and it was delicious. It costs $19, which you won't find in any other restaurant - typically such a dish goes for $27, so this is a deal. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that the lights are very bright- I like it a bit more dim when I'm at dinner.

    subpar cupcakes, good brunch

with a name like georgia's bake shop, this cafe should offer better cupcakes than the dry, bland, tiny cupcake on which i just spent $3. the thing tasted like a grocery-store bought cupcake that had been sitting around in open air for a couple of days. the frosting tasted decent, but was far too light and insubstantial (it had actually melted into a liquid-y goo by the time i got back to my apartment 5 minutes later). do not waste your money. otherwise, the lamb meatballs are delicious but for the quantity you get, they are a bit overpriced.

Their chocolate chip brioche is the best

I love the coffee and chocolate chip brioche here! I've only done take-out there, and the service at the counter has always been very nice.

    Exceptionally Poor Customer Service

I came in to order a cake for my husband's 60th birthday. After a very long wait, over 20 minutes, a young man took my order. On the evening of my husband's birthday, I got the cake out of the frig, untaped the box, and found that the message I had requested had been changed. Guess I should have had them open the box before I left the store. A bigger surprise awaited when I cut the cake. The chocolate cake with hazlenut creme brulee I was expecting was actually a carrot cake - something my husband doesn't like. Needless to say, I wasn't happy and neither was he! Took the uneaten cake back the next day . The guy who had taken my order ask why I brought it back. I explained the errors and he went in search of the paperwork for my order. When he found it, he looked at me, paused and handed me my money. No comment, no apology, no offer to provide the right cake, nothing but a few bills and off he went with the uneaten cake. The young women behind the counter started laughing - guess they thought it was quite funny. I certainly didn't. This isn't my first experience with the indifference of the staff at the expensive shop; but, it will certainly be my last.

    delectable pastries but poor service

I live around the corner and have been to Georgia's no less than 50 times. Why do I keep going back? It's the closest coffee shop to me and I like to frequent independents stores rather than chains. But the service is so poor, there are times I get in line, then just leave. I always (ALWAYS) have to restate my simple coffee order (small skim latte) 2/3 times b/c the cashier girl can never repeat it back to me correctly. She often gets my change wrong, and it's very normal for her to confuse several orders in a row. If I order 2 things- well, forget it, it's way too confusing for her. Table service is beyond disappointing, which has sadly made the place so undesirable to visit after the renovation turned it ino a large sit-down cafe. I've never had my check brought to me at a table- I've always had to go hunt it down myself. Often the table servers (two girls in particular) don't speak English well, so there is usu. some misunderstanding involved there too when trying to communicate basic things like "I need another napkin." Not to mention that there is no element of courtesy or niceness involved in the service. I don't even bother going to get pastry now because of the forced table service rule, since you're guaranteed to get poor customer service and just end up annoyed. There are two exceptions: two guys who are managers or part of the owner's family- they are great- super nice, quick and they listen and respond when customers order. But they are always behind the counter trying to wrangle the rest of the incompetent staff to some level of efficiency. It's sad that a place with such good potential is ruined by the staff. Can they not find anyone who is "with it" and quick, a bit kind, and capable? Do they just not pay the staff enough? I can't figure it out. The staff is truly worse than almost any restaurant/ cafe I visit. Upside: the croissants are delicious.
