I absolutely love Gennaro. I just moved to the Upper West from New England. So far, this is the only restaurant that is definitely part of my regular rotation. Definitely check the specials before making up your mind. They usually have a long list of excellent specials. When I order from the menu, I'm partial to the capaccio and the chicken saltimbocca. Also, don't leave without trying the tiramisu. I'd eat there even if this wasn't the case, but the food comes out quickly and is very reasonably priced (entrees between $10 and $20).

I could eat here every night the food is so good. The waiters are personable and delightful. The atmosphere is close and hectic and this is not a place for loitering because everyone in the neighborhood knows what a good thing this place is! I would pass up the fanciest of restaurants just to have a satisfying meal here! It's home!

Ordered delivery from here. Waited an entire hour for delivery. They sent 6 cold raviolis and no bread. Besides for being cold and unappetizing when I called the restaurant to complain the manager started screaming at me on the phone and told me to go ahead and write all the bad reviews I wanted and to call my friends and have them write bad reviews too. There are too many great restaurants with fantastic service in NYC to deal with this sort of behavior.

This is the best Italian restaurant in the neighborhood! The food is excellent and atmosphere is so pleasant! It is for sure not the cheapest version of Italian food but it is so worth it. Every time someone visits me, I can't wait to take them to this place! Ravioli, pasta and SPECIALS are fantastic. It does take time to get a table but that is the price for popularity of this place.

To say that the food was pizza parlor quality would be complementary. For those of you who need a better explanation - the tomato sauce was sweet, as in full of sugar; the tuscan bread salad had no bread in it and instead was full of cucumbers and peppers, as in Greek salad, and the polenta was like soup, as in horrible. Enough said.

I disagee with several of the reviews - We absolutely fell in love with Gennaro's! The seating was cozy and romantic. The food was amazing (especially the world famous lamb shank!) and wasn't overpriced for the quality. We enjoyed that the wait staff didn't constantly bother us - they made sure that our glasses were never empty and that our food was to our liking, then left us to enjoy our meal and conversation. We will definately be back there again.

Overrated. Our food was nothing special. Pasta portions are tiny and over priced. Tables are way to close together. The service is obnoxious. Gave over a 20% tip then got forced to leave by the waiter and bus boy. Cash only = no receipt = they don't pay taxes. This place is great for upper west siders who want to be new yorkers and think they know good food. No reason to go back. Find another place.
