Just back from a fantastic meal here where we sat at the bar. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and generous. The food was fantastic. We had kale salad, fava bean salad, branzino and lamb chops with a great bottle of red. It was all so delicious and because we didn't sit at a table we had lots of room, a nice view and a quiet place to talk. Highly recommend.

The decor is "store-front meets Italian TGI Fridays" ugly and tacky. The waiter's order screen is smack in the middle of the dining room making the whole experience feel like a dive-thru. The waiter listed about a dozen specials (or more) very quickly with no mention of prices. There is no wine-by-the-glass menu. When I asked for a glass of red wine, I was brought what I assumed was house wine. It was pleasant enough and I ordered another. I later discovered that each glass was $17!!!! That is more than the price of the average entree. I complained to the manager and he offered me another drink. Hardly the point. I felt intentionally mislead and ripped off.

Everything was delicious! We came in at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and told we would have to wait 10 - 15 minutes. It was exactly 10 minutes and we were seated. Service was great! Not pushy and gave us our space. The food was amazing! We got the gnocchi and the ravioli. They were perfectly cooked and delicious. The value was great! We enjoyed ourselves very much.

I am somewhat surprised by some of the negative reviews here - we love Gennaro and bring a lot of our friends here for dinner. I can agree a bit with the service comments as they can be brisk and a bit cocky but I think the food is really good. I would argue that this is a solid neighborhood place and the line out the door pretty much every night seems to support that.

i have lived next to gennaro for three years and have wondered why i never go. now i know. don't know if it's because i got takeout and they don't care what you find when you get home, but 6 undercooked ravioli and a shrimp salad with two shrimp and one canned artichoke heart is not exactly thrilling. had a glass of terrible pinot grigio also. and if you do go, make sure to bring cash. they don't take credit cards and don't tell you that till you get your bill. i asked someone why they don't have a sign out front saying they dont take cash and he said "we've been here 14 years. we don't have to". ok.

This is a good restaurant. It will not knock your socks off but it is solid. Some nice wine choices and a few dishes (Kale salad) are terrific. Give it a chance

I have wanted to come here for years due to the countless solid reviews I have encountered. Turns out, most people are downright clueless when it comes to food. Wine was terrible, pea salad was drowning in salt and therefore inedible, cacio pepe was the worst I ever had, hands down. The waiter removed the cacio pepe from the bill considering I did not eat any of it, and as we were leaving, I saw the owner giving waiter a lot of crap for removing this UNEATEN dish from our bill. So, I approached the owner and explained to him how horrid the dish was and that it was not the waiters fault (even though the waiter was incompetent, yet cocky) and he said that it's everyone's favorite dish and how could I not like it. One of the worst dining experiences I had had to date (I have been living in New York for 30 years).
