why do people wait in line

was there last nite. tried to seat us in the front tables at bar (i would have needed a step stool to reach the seat!). tried to seat us in back of the bar in warm area. ordered Orecchiette con Broccoli E Provolone with broccoli and melted provolone minus the provolone. waiter advised it would be prepared in garlic and oil. dish comes, no garlic no oil no flavor. no broccoli - unless you consider frozen broccoli stems broccoli no plates were given for the bread - rosemary bread (very good) secondary bread - hard as rock as if it were stale. dessert menu thrown on the table rather than handed to us. person next to us ordered polenta with her meal and asked the waiter...where is it? i've had better food and service at my local diner.

    Wonderful restaurant

Went to Gennaro to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. Our party of 5 was seated a few minutes early and the wait staff was wonderful, explained all the dishes. Each of us had different entrees which were ample and very very good. We shared an antipasto and then shared 2 desserts. I was somewhat worried about the staff after reading some previous reviews, but have no idea what happened the night they were there as the staff was pleasant and helpful. A good experience and we plan to return.

Still fabulous after all these years

The food is fabulous! The menu items are incredible value for the money, the lamb shank, the pasta, the giant appetizer to share! OK it can be crowded, specials are not the same bargain and the wait staff can be snarly but go for the food!

    Cold food / poor service

I've never felt compelled to write a review before, but yhe service I received from this place was appaling! I ordered delivery and the man explained it would take 30-45 min. Completely understandable. 45 min later, I called. They said the delivery guy had left 10 min ago. An hour and 10 min later i called again wanting a deep discount and they wouldn't honor that and the food was cold. They were absolutely rude and not caring of customer service.

    Poor Food

We ordered take-out and the food was a complete disappointment. The salads were wilted and about half a serving for a $12 salad. The food did not taste fresh at all and was ice cold when we got it home. I would not recommend this restaurant in anyway.

    Try a different Italian place

We had been curious about Gennaro for a while and tried it on a Tuesday night. We are generous in observing any establishment and appreciate the work that goes into good food and service. I tried the pumpkin ravioli with walnuts and reggiano. Sounded good as a special. WRONG. I asked the waiter for Reggiano because there was none on the unadorned plate. He said "What's that?" The pasta was as dry as yesterday's lunch. My wife tried the shrimp salad. Inedible. We sent it back. Narry an apology from the waiter. Could not get their attention. Was bumped 4 times in their bustle to get from table to table. Head waiter blew through the specials like an auctioneer.) My son had a dry pork chop in carmelized onions. Polenta was edible though.
