Be prepared and bring cash. The good thing is that the corkage fee is only 10 dollars, so bring a bottle of quality wine unless you prefer their mediocre Italian wine. The food is hearty Italian, usually excellent soups and appetizers. Good homemade pastas, be sure to ask which ones are homemade, not all are! The service is actually pretty poor. I've been their about 7 times now and each time the manager hustles you out the minute he knows you won't order anything else. If you linger over your cappucino, he will rudely continue to ask/badger you "need anything else otherwise we need to seat more people."

Great restaurant with great food. If you can, just order in and avoid the lines. Make sure you get the Antipasti Platter for 2 - it's excellent!

Our first visit here two years ago was wonderful. But we've gone back 3 times since then and each time the food has been saltier than the time before to the point that our last meal made both of us ill! Our most recent meal (grilled sausages over polenta) was so salty that it gave us msg-like headaches all night. We'd like to like this place--the menu is creative and the offerings are delightfully different from most of the red sauce joints on the UWS. But the execution of the dishes simply isn't up to scratch. They look pretty but... For us, $75 smackers and headaches for a modest meal for two is too high a price to pay.

The food is wonderful here. The place is small & crowded, but it's nice. The service was alright, the only thing I don't understand is "why" they don't take credit cards, and why each person must have $20 worth of food? On the lower corner of the menu it says "min. $20 per person." Why on earth must you be forced to spend $20 on dinner when all you want is an entree which runs $13? If you are up for having a full course meal however, you should go to Gennaro - the food is fabulous!

Gennero?s is the best Italian on the UWS. They is a great anti-pasta platter for 2 that will feed 8. The pastas are good, but I prefer their meat entrees. The tiramisu is amazing. Two downfalls, the long wait and it?s cash only.

Went on a week night with a friend and didn't have to wait since we were there around 7pm. The crowds started to appear around 8:30pm. Was pleasantly surprised at the large number of specials. The food was amazing. The service could've been better (had to specifically ask the waiter for the winelist, and he brought us the check before we asked). Would definitely go back again.

My favorite Italian place in all of Manhattan. Delicious food, incredible nightly specials, and inexpensive to boot! My only complaint is the wait on some nights. Otherwise, go early and enjoy!!!
