I love when the waiter Mike describes to us 15 specials of the night and recommends a great glass of wine. If you really care about the specials watch where you sit, you may get the waiter who is never overjoyed about reciting the many nightly delights. It is extremely crowded on a peak night after 6pm but once you become addicted to the food its hard not to go. Go with cash and enjoy yourself just remeber if you can't meet the $20 per person minimum because the pastas only $13.00, then order the $6 bottle of water or save some room for dessert.

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here quite a few times. I have really enjoyed every meal, although you often have to wait for a table. The menu displayed on this website doesn't really represent what is offered...there are amazing specials that change daily. I recommend trying them out!

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about - the service here is great - the waitstaff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgable - even when there's a crowd they are attentive without rushing you. and the food is very good!

While Gennaro's food is usually enjoyable, don't bother ordering for delivery. It consistently takes 50 minutes or more for delivery. On one occasion it took an hour and a half to deliver our meal without any warning or subsequent consolation from the restaurant. Neither the manager nor the maitre 'd offered any sort of discount or special reimbursement for the delay, blaming it on "being busy," and "what do you want me to do?" Won't order again, and most likely won't visit again.

Gennaro used to be an excellent place. Now it is too crowed and you really feel being rushed thru your meal. Sorry, it is off my list

After enjoying what was a rather decent dinner at gennaro, i left the place with a sour after taste. i don't believe that a restaurant that gives its waiters the authority to impolitely and abruptly demand that diners vacate table immediately after closing the bill has anything to be proud of no matter how decent the food may be. a good restaurant must ensure that diners feel happy and comfortable about enjoying their meals and parting with money at a particular establishment. this is a restaurant best enjoyed at home via it's take-out service, that way you needn't worry about getting kicked out when your plate's over....

Gennaro's is a winner! The food has been consistently wonderful in the 10 years we've been going. Crowded, yes; cramped, sometimes; noisy, yes! But that's because the food is exemplary! Service- with Michael or Andrew is great ---otherwise, it's OK. But the quality and taste of the food is superb and overrides the service and ambience. The gnocchi is the best I've ever had, anywhere! Order from the Specials because they really are -very Italian and creative as well. Gennaro is very obliging when a guest asks for something "without cheese" or "light on the garlic" or "just a touch of cream". It's all cooked to order -so it's worth the wait. The wine list is fairly priced and quite diverse -something for everyone from novice to afficianado. We see "regulars" each time we go -Gennaro's gets a big repeat business from people who know food ---celebrities, critics and foodies. The pastas are great --but so are the lamb chops and the duck --and fish as well. Vegetarians can always find good choice, too. Don't be dissuaded by the naysayers --Gennaro must be doing something right...and deserves a very high rating!
