Almost everything was excellent, the only knock coming from the wine list not having the varietal listed. The place was crowded on a Friday night and the volume was loud, but our waiter was patient and was able to be heard over the din. Both the octopus and the calamari salads were perfect, and the main dishes of gnocci and pan seared swordfish did not dissapoint. You MUST finish with the tiramisu (sp?) I normally dislike sweets but theirs was prepared with more of a coffee flavor.

We have been trying to come to Gennaro's for a while and finally made it the other night. I am kicking myself for not trying harder sooner because the food here is terrific and rivals the most popular chefs in the city. We go to Batali's restaurants often and Danny Meyer's, also Jean-Georges and pay a bundle for great food but we were floored by the food, service (Michael is very knowledgable), and the bill for 4 adults was only a buck fifty!!! This is an absolute MUST. The specials are not mentioned on this menu and are copious. Also, cash only, no rez accepted (but it seems to move fast), and kid friendly. GO!!!

While I found the atmosphere of this place to be great I was unimpressed by the food. The portions were on the smaller side and it was on the bland side. Lamb shank lacked any real flavor. Also, be sure to bring cash if you go. It is cash only!

I love when the waiter Mike describes to us 15 specials of the night and recommends a great glass of wine. If you really care about the specials watch where you sit, you may get the waiter who is never overjoyed about reciting the many nightly delights. It is extremely crowded on a peak night after 6pm but once you become addicted to the food its hard not to go. Go with cash and enjoy yourself just remeber if you can't meet the $20 per person minimum because the pastas only $13.00, then order the $6 bottle of water or save some room for dessert.

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here quite a few times. I have really enjoyed every meal, although you often have to wait for a table. The menu displayed on this website doesn't really represent what is offered...there are amazing specials that change daily. I recommend trying them out!

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about - the service here is great - the waitstaff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgable - even when there's a crowd they are attentive without rushing you. and the food is very good!

While Gennaro's food is usually enjoyable, don't bother ordering for delivery. It consistently takes 50 minutes or more for delivery. On one occasion it took an hour and a half to deliver our meal without any warning or subsequent consolation from the restaurant. Neither the manager nor the maitre 'd offered any sort of discount or special reimbursement for the delay, blaming it on "being busy," and "what do you want me to do?" Won't order again, and most likely won't visit again.
