We visited Gene's on a trip to NY and had lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant wasn't busy; most customers seemed to be regulars---a good sign. The food was delicious. Huge pork chops, tender veal, tasty clams, and divine chicken marsala. The Italian cheesecake was a bit dry for my taste but flavorful nonetheless. Service was attentive and gracious. Highly recommended.

You may wait after putting your order in (no overdone pasta hanging around in a collander here) Everything is cooked to order. I must have eaten there 20 or 30 times and have NEVER been disappointed..How many restaurants can you say that about (not too many).I hesitate to reccomend a dish BUT I don't hesitate to tell you anything you do order will be excellent..You should take it from me (it's remarkably rare that I'm wrong) !!!! Go and Enjoy !!

I've lived in the village for 30 yrs, yet have never been in Gene's until I was on jury duty and someone recommended it as being great for lobster etc. So I tried it--and now I am becoming a "regular", along with a friend of mine who travels in from LI and requests to go there! Its like stepping back in time ,where the food comes first and the atmosphere is comforting, cozy, friendly service(if you are sharing with others in your party, they ill divide up for you, which is much appreciated!) and you can actually enjoy your meal in piece, knowing everything was made with fresh ingredients to order! The lobster is excellen and tender, as is the outstanding fried zucchini with yummy marinara sauce. I highly recommend this place any day over the slew of trendy noisy "of the moment" haunts!

Impeccable service in red linen waiter's jackets, serving relish trays and classic cocktails; a menu reminiscent of a half-century ago including such artery-clogging favorites as chicken liver mimosa, pasta ala carbonara and a stuffed veal chop that could feed a Bangladeshi village! Add to this a friendly atmosphere and decor last updated when Eisenhower was a resident of Washington, DC. We've been huge fans of this place since we came across it one evening about 10 years ago -- went in for a drink and essentially haven't left since.
