Gee Whiz Diner

As someone else wisely repeated in his review, "it's a diner." There's a lot of stuff on most diner menus that no one is expected or order. Anything with salmon in it you shouldn't be ordering. Stick to things like cheeseburgers, grilled cheese, two fried eggs, toast, and coffee, a tuna salad sandwich, etc. and you'll be fine - the prices are only a little higher than other Manhattan diners for those kinds of things.

I have lived 3 blocks from Gee Whiz my entire life. I grew up visiting Gee Whiz for dinner often with my family and still enjoy the food and the friendly staff however I have seen the prices inflate year after year and i'm sorry but it is crazy to spend $14 for chicken fingers. Anyone who claims that if this is too expensive we shouldn't be living here should go back to where they came from. It wasn't until people like you moved in that the neighborhood became overpriced and rich. Gee Whiz is a nice diner with good food however be sure to check the prices on certain items before ordering because some prices are really too much.

You get what you pay for! It's not expensive, when a family of four can dine for $41! What perfect service too. My 8 year old absolutely loves this place. Comfortable, classy, clean, and uncomplicated! Don't miss it

I have been ordering from this diner for the past few weeks and am consistently impressed with both the portion sizes and the speed of delivery. Compared to some others in the area this place is genuinely stellar. Moreover, they have yet to mess up any part of an order. Highly recommend for breakfast food.

My wife & I just moved into Tribeca from Chelsea and sought out a Diner that we could call home. Tried this and found it wanting on all accounts. Prices were 20% to 40% higher than what we were used to at our old diners in Chelsea. My wife had a salad with salmon and we could barely find the salmon in the salad, despite the high upcharge for it. When we pointed it out to the waiter, he told us that was the way it is supposed to be prepared. He had clearly heard it before, but he showed no sympathy or empathy and was generally nowhere to be found during our time there. My dish was pretty poor and then we had to waith 15 min. to find someone to bring us our bill. Stay away.

OK...let me say this from the perspective of someone who lives in the same building as Gee Whiz. 1) I have NEVER seen a rat, cockroach or so much as an ant in my building. Did I mention I live above a diner in NYC? 2) At 1st, I was skeptical, but they always come through. We ordered delivery for about 2 yrs before ever stepping foot in the diner. 3) Once we actually went inside, I was won over. These people are authentic. It's a diner. The staff remembers you. They joke with you. They are nice. They work very hard. They are uber fast. I like that in a restaurant. 4) It's a diner. And in Tribeca, I appreciate that. Things are $$$ here. Just because I live here, doesn't mean I am rich. It may, however, mean I am stupid. Similar to best dishes at all diners... Burgers (w/ chez even better - ask for raw or caramelized onions if you like) Fries - Heart burn might ensue but they are impossible to deny. Moussaka (sp?) Gyro Healthy options: Caesar Salad Anything with a side salad instead of fries (if you are going down that road, at least replace fries with salad, as hard as that is) Ask them, they will help you once you get past there "rushed diner attitude" Summary: Again, it's a diner, 1 block below the most expensive zip code in the city. We are happy to have this option here. And with good service. These folks are real people and that's prob my favorite part.

What is with this elitist tone? Just because one can afford to live in Tribeca does not mean one should be ripped-off. After all, how do people remain rich? Answer: They spend their money wisely. Gee Whiz is not a wise place to eat. I have lived in Tribeca for 22 years and have seen the prices become insane. I buy better quality ingredients and cook better than the crap served at this "restaurant."
