Dependable not spectacular
I have lived in the neighborhood 30 years and have seen places come and go. Gardenia is good although it can get annoyingly crowded at times. The owner keeps the hot menu varied and it's usually good. The deserts happen to be awesome. All in all a good choice. It's a nice place and the owners make you feel welcome. And the cook creates surprisingly good hot dishes

Good Food Delievery Could be Faster
I like that you can create your own salad. Choice of lettuce, toppings, and they have a pretty decent dressing list. I like that they have a variety of fat free dressings as well. The salads are what you would expect from a plain salad. All of the ingredients seem to be fresh and I have no complaints with the food quality. The value is also good based on average salad prices in the area. Overall I would recommend this place for a healthy lunch option. The only complaint I have is that the delivery is somewhat slow. I have ordered form this place three or four times. I am three blocks away and it always takes 20-35 minutes to get my salad. If you are in a hurry I would not recommend placing an order for delievery.

oof, iz good
Nutshell: very good food + superb service + very nicely priced = this place rocks. I've gone here 8 out of the last 12 nights for chow and have nothing but good stuff to say about the food, value, and service. I would have gone more often except for the fact that each time I go, they give me so much food that it feeds me for a couple of meals. P.S.: Did I mention how good the service is?

My favorite lunch spot
90% of the time I get my lunch here, I'm very picky and this place has great food (and a good variety of it too, so you're never bored) and it's reasonable! Their salads are top notch, $6 for a small salad that includes 6 toppings is my favorite item. The toppings are amazing, and so numerous I have a really rough time deciding what I want. Stuffed grape leaves, pesto chicken, garlic shrimp, different cheeses, nuts, beans, sprouts, veggies, etc. I love their sandwiches, particularly the home made chicken salad- hallmark of a great Deli if you ask me. Sadly I've had to break my morning bacon-egg-and-cheese-on-a-roll habit due to cholesterol concerns, but I guess what I'm saying is that this place rocks for breakfast too. The service is excellent and the staff go out of their way to be polite and courteous- something which I deeply appreciate in a place like NYC. On my list of things to try at some point (if cholesterol isn't an issue) is their sandwich named "the fat conductor": chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, bacon or steakum with cheese.

the best for less
I stopped into Gardenia deli at 2:00 a.m. in the morning after i went to madison square garden. TO my surprise the food was fresh and hot and very reasonably priced with large size portions. The service was very friendly and the guy behind the counter kept me in stiches while he prepaired my meal. He is a very intellergent fellow and really takes pride in the way he goes about business. IF you are in this area make sure you stop in and enjoy the very best food and service in new york Steve

Go at night!
A little secret - some of the best burgers in the city for the price. You must go and have the grecian burger, absolutely delicious! Go at night. The place is always busy but that's because the food is so good. All the guys who work there are the best and they tell really good jokes. Try that grecian burger though and you won't believe it. This place is one of the last great nyc delis.
