I have eaten at the Garden Cafe on and off for several years now and have enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. I usually go on weekends but recently had an opportunity to go during the week. BIG mistake! I encountered a man whose presence was solemn and dark. I almost feel like I was encountering my caretaker. Not a single smile or even half a smile. It made me feel awkward. The food was great regardless but I believe I will stick to my weekends at Garden Cafe.

I would have thought since it now has much more competition in the neighborhood as compared to when it first opened, that it would have wanted to keep ahead of the crowd but the Garden Cafe has really gone downhill. Atmosphere very comfortable, outside garden major plus, service sporadic, ranging from poor to good...but the food, now there's no excuse for simply subpar food.

So, today I was left alone by my hubby and went to redeem my Groupon. I got a seat outside in the garden, service was perfect - 3 young men were constantly floating around and very attentive to the slightest little motion. Food was good but not great. I ordered pecan salmon and while the salmon was not dry, it was over cooked. The wine was good and the experience altogether was great. After presenting the Groupon, they only gave me a bill for the amount I went over plus tax. Gratuity was left to me, with helpful suggestions on the side. I hate to figure out the tip so this came in handy. They had it figured out for 15%, 18% & 20% - take your pick. I will definitely go back there, so pleasant.

Had a great lunch with family today. Our server, I believe he said his name was Rusell, was very pleasant and attentive. Food was great although the chicken could use a little bit of flavor. Atmosphere was friendly. Only thing weird was the man standing behind the bar at the front of the restaurant. Upon arrival you are supposed to feel a warmth and not a "what are you doing here" kind of feeling. Overall however, best place to eat in Inwood.

I went to this place this week on a friend's recommendation, and maybe I came on an off day because I certainly wouldn't recommend it. My party was one of about 5 others when we arrived. However, the service we received was not good. It started off very nice and me and my friend were very pleased. We had a nice table, it was quiet, and our waiter had a very charming personality. But then it turned for the worst. He took our drink order and at that time we mentioned we were waiting on someone else so that we wouldn't be ordering food just yet. He brought us our drinks, and then disappeared, we didn't see him again for a long while. He didn't come back to ask if we wanted another drink or check if we had changed our mind about appetizers. It was a good 25 mins when he finally came back to check on us. And we had to ask for a bread basket because he didn't offer it and we saw it on everyone else's table. So the bus boy brings it out to us, but we noticed there were no utensils not even a butter knife for us to spread the butter and olives that came with the bread. That was another 20 mins of waiting to get the attention of ANY staff. When my sister and her baby finally joined us we figured they didn't have highchairs because they didn't offer, but then my sister spotted one on the other side of the patio with a glass-cleaner bottle on it so we knew they had. We asked for one, but the lady we asked never brought it. After waiting close to 10 minutes, we flagged down someone else to get the darn highchair for us. Finally we ordered our food, and it was mediocre and bland. The white sause I had on my pasta was way too oily, as if the cream had separated, and the chicken breast had charred (burned!) edges. It was certainly disappointing. The only think I really enjoyed was the patio setting and my friends that night. Maybe the front of the house is better tended than the patio. but I certainly wouldn't take my chances.

Being immersed in The Mini Dominican has its charms, but sometimes you want an escape from the thumping bachata music, and this is the place. Just a nice normal place with decent cafe food and a pleasant back garden. The service can be a little pokey, but things a bit more laid back up here in rural Manhattan.

I have lived in Inwood for more than 30 years and within those years many of the same kind of restaurants have been erected. I don't particularly frequent much of the restaurants in my neighborhood due to the lack of variety but when I discovered this lovely jewel I haven't stopped going..... I have dined many times at the restaurant and also ordered my food for delivery with 0 complaints. Great food, atmosphere, & staff! Wishing Inwood brings more variety!!
