Not recommended
While we were still being seated, the hostess told us that we would have to leave in one hour, and the waitress repeated this information. The waitress asked us THREE separate times if we wanted to upgrade our drink orders to “unlimited” for an extra $6 each, but we would all have to pay, whether we wanted extra drinks or not. The food itself was not as good as any decent diner. This should not have been a surprise, after the waitress told us there could be no substitutions, because the chef prepares everything in advance! So much for having your food cooked to order. I think she was just trying to follow the management’s instructions, because when we asked about a lost glove, both the hostess and the manager were rude and unhelpful: they obviously had our money and wanted us to leave. That was the last time we’ll go to Garage. The tourists can keep it.

Rushed thru Meal
If you are looking for a place to have a few cocktails and a nice meal, while listening to some nice jazz, this is not the place. Be prepared to be rushed through your meal with the waiter asking you if you need anything every step of the way, acting as if he is being helpful, but it feeling like 'get out, if you have nothing more you need. Glasses were taken as soon as the last sip of wine was finished. They state this on the menu, 2 hour time limit. What's puzzling is that the place wasn't completely full!? Are they anticipating something? Beware, a 18% gratuity was added to our bill, even for a table of 4. When we spoke to the manager about this, he mentioned this was the 'suggested' amount, but this did not appear on the printed bill. I am a New Yorker and I have dined at places that have good ambience and good class and this place and not even as expensive as this. As I look around, I see that the place caters to the tourist. I am embarrassed to think this is also how they treat tourists. Take care in choosing this place if your looking for a nice dining experience...

Food was decent, the service less so
First, I tried calling for a reservation, but was put on hold for 15 minutes. Then, the call was dropped and I waited for another ten. When we got there, we waited....and waited some more. I ordered the limitless drink special, which unlike at Il Bastardo, was completely watered down. My poor thirsty sister asked the waiter for water three times! 10-15 minute wait between visits from our waiter who apologized each time, but alas...the damage was done. Food was decent, but the service was offensive.

Nice date place
Great cozy spot. Nothing spectacular about the food.

Go there only for drinks
Garage has an awesome jazz band going. The food was less than average. Their pizza margarita looks like a frozen pizza that you buy at the supermarket. And costs $18!! If you're looking for something to nibble on next to your drink take the chicken quesadilla which was pretty good. The drinks were also overpriced. Got a gin and tonic and was surprised to see them charging $13 for it. BUT, if you're careful with what you order, you'll have a good time.

Wana make a bet?
This place will close in under a year. Sad to have to make that call after almost twenty years but the new management, poor food, lack of service all lead me to the conclusion that the tourists alone will not be enough to keep this on the map. See ya!

Rudest Service in NYC
I have lived in NYC for more than 25 years, and this is the rudest service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. After being told there was a 2 drink minimum to sit at a table (we were okay with that), we were berated and refused service when we ordered iced tea. To top it off, we only wanted to stay for half an hour, and 2/3 of the tables were empty. When we tried to complain about this treatment, we were told off (again). My question: Why not just say there's a $20 dollar (or however many dollars) minimum? We probably would have paid $20 to sit at the table and be left alone. I live in the neighborhood, but would never come here again.
