Great Indian Food in East Village
Gandhi is perhaps one of the finer Indian restaurants in the East Village. The waiters are attentive but don't shadow you as you eat which is nice. The food is great too...the naan is fluffy and moist but not raw in the center. The seafood has always been cooked well and generally they use the better portions of the meat. The decor is nice but has a bit more Mid East flair than South Asian but obviously that doesn't detract from the quality of the food and service. Two thumbs up for Gandhi!

Very good
Foodwise, I think this is one of the better Indian restaurants on the block!! The food is fresh and yummy. Service was a little slow, but not bad. The decor is somewhere between kitsch and tacky. It's also rather dark. Prices are very reasonable!!

Great Food, Poor Service
My boyfriend and I love the food here, which is the only reason that we go back time and time again. The bathroom is so small! I always smack my knees on the door! The atmosphere of the dining space is lacking- it's WAY too dark in there. And the service, oh the service. The waiters are bad. The delivery and take out service are worse. The food was coming out of the packages when it was delivered and the delivery guy "didn't have any change." I ordered takeout once and I waited 30 minutes before walking over....50 minutes after I arrived I was still waiting for my order which consisted of one dish and a piece of naan! All in all, the food is GREAT. I would recommend Gandhi to anyone who has a lot of time to kill waiting for food.

poor customer service
Ordered lunch delivery recently. Here are my problems: 1. Yesterday the delivery guy wasn't available until 4:30. 2. Today the delivery took 50 minutes. 3. Delivery guys had no change and got a $7.60 tip on a $12.40 order. 4. Restaurant sent saag paneer instead of mattar paneer. 5. Paneer was melty like mozzarella. 6. Food was not spicy at all. I asked for medium. It was VERY mild. The food quality does not deserve the 4 stars showing on this page right now. However, it was definitely edible, and not terrible.

NOT Bland if you ask for it to be spicy!
This restaurant is by far the best I have eaten at on E. 6th Street. I visit practically everytime I am in new york. The food is excellent but please keep in mind that by default, the chef will NOT make your food spicy unless you specify a level of spicyness. Service is average- food always arrives promptly.

service issues
stopped in last night w/ 2 friends. we were seated right away, however we then proceeded to sit there for 20 minutes without even as much as a glance from a waiter... no water, no eye contact, we were basically ignored. night continued on like this... never been treatly so poorly before. will be the last time i visit. food was fine, nothing you wouldn't find elsewhere with nicer staff...
