Mixed feelings
The pros were: 2 levels, lots tables, good for groups, very attentive waitstaff. It is located near the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R subways, and a short walk to penn station. I went here with a group of girlfriends. We almost left within the first 30 minutes because of the poor attitude we received from the bartender - abrasive tone and mannerisms, even eye rolling. The saving grace was the waitstaff, who were very sweet and attentive. However, if I return, I would not go back to the bar.

Birthday Success
I had the most wonderful experience for my 23rd birthday this year - I called ahead and arranged a big table upstairs for all my friends and I - so accomodating was the Galway Hooker! We stayed upstairs and enjoyed a great atmosphere and no trouble at the bar area. Amazing place for a birthday with 15 friends - loved it so much!

Amazing Sliders!
Stopped in here with some friends on way home from work. I would totally recommend the sliders appetitizer to anyone. Awesome. 1 Beef, 1 Turkey and 1 pulled pork. Oozing flavour and cooked expertly. I'll be back!

How can you screw up fish and chips?
Unbelievable but this place managed to screw up fish and chips. The fish seemed freezer burned so bad that it was just wooden. A pub that screws up fish and chips doesn't deserve to be around.

great brunch
We had a great brunch in the Galway Hooker - maybe we're just too used to Irish prices but a great plate of fresh fish, fries and salad plus two pints of lager for $10 was fantastic value. The food was fresh and tasty our party of 4 tried the fish, burgers and omlettes. The pub was lively with some major sports on so it was fun and good food. Our total bill for 4 plates of food and 8 alcholic drinks was $40 with a tip $50 - so for all those Irish people that's about 32 euro in the most exciting city in the world.

Not good
The food was fine. It tasted good but I could get the same quality food at almost any Irish pub in New York City. The staff is seriously unfriendly. The person who waited on us was very rude. We sat waiting for 45 minutes for our food. My friend asked nicely if the food was almost ready and the girl was nasty to her. The restaurant wasn't very busy. There were only a few people there. The girl who waited on us did everything she could to make us feel unwelcome. I will never go back there again.

Fun non-pretentious bar
I never write reviews, but decided this bar deserves one, and a good one at that! It is so nice to find a bar that pretty much has it all, without having the crappy attitude that usually accompanies such popularity. The bar itself is very busy on the weekends, and happy hour. They have some cool rooms at the back, with nice leather couches and pool tables. The staff were actually friendly, and seemed to be having a good time too, which always helps! I am going back to watch the next game here, they have big t.v's everywhere, and the menu looks good.
