Heard it's closing in January
Just heard that Gallagher's is closing. I stopped going there a few years ago. The prices became outrageous, while the quality and service went downhill. This is one place that deserves to go.

Waste of time and money
This restaurant's time is long gone! As the pictures on it's walls . . . We felt like a steak, and chose the place hoping for a succulent one! We had some appetizers to start: oysters, garden salad, steak tartar. The oysters were average, but what was the first sign of poor care - they were not cut, and had lots of shell particles. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he said "they forgot to do it probably". Hmm! Salad consisted of fox lettuce, and a (ONE) slice of tomato placed on top. Nothing else . . . Then we got our steaks. And the sides. The steaks were cold. When we brought it to the attention of the waiter, they were taken away, and brought back after a while, rather burnt on the outside. They were the same ones, just switched: I got my husband's one, and he got mine. Needless to say that at that point they were dried up, and very bland . . . The green beans? OMG! A pile of defrosted MSG-loaded green beans placed in a messy disarray on a plate. Cold, as well. And nothing on them - no butter, no bread crumbs. A school canteen takes better pride in serving of food! In short - will not go back, and I wish that the poor NY visitors (they were a few of them at the tables around us clearly disappointed, as well) were forewarned

Best steak in the five boroughs
I was shocked to read so many average to poor reviews. Both my husband and myself have been in the restaurant business for decades and this restaurant is for real top notch! We both had the prime rib, which was immense, and we ate til we had to unbutton the tops if our pants! Cooked a perfect medium, medium-rare... Excellent! Can't wait to go back!

tourist trap
Somebody once told me: you cannot have a bad meal in New York: Forgot to mention "Excluding Gallaghers" It takes effort to ruin perfectly good steak and if you voice your discontent it is almost expected. Made mistake to order sauce bernaise which arrived on my table streight from refridgerator - COLD.and the list goes on. Bottom line:STAY AWAY

Disappointed
The steaks were mediocre and the service was slow and unattentive. The waiter was more interested in watching soccer on TV than on helping his customers. When my wife mentioned the steak was tough and gristly, the waiter said it was because she had it cooked medium well and walked away. He did not have a response to why mine was the same way and cooked medium rare.

flawed food, nice service
We went in at a quiet time; pretty good service. The steaks were cremated! You could tell the meat was good but ordered medium and came completely grey, dry, burned. We had no time to send back and the waiter kindly comped drinks and dessert and seemed to care about the lousy cooking. Generous drinks, vegetables good, cheesecake glorious. Perhaps just a bad day in the kitchen.

What a waste of money!
This place has mediocre steaks, average service, and is very noisy with tables almost on top of each other! They have ridiculous prices compared to the product and service they provide. For the prices they charge I expect my steak to be cooked the way I ordered it and not have to send it back because it was almost raw! I guess I sould have checked some of the previous reviews instead of relying on Gallagher's hyped reputation!
