    great!!

I can't tell you how much I enjoy this place. From the modest, modern decor, to the dim lights, it is one of my favorite places to eat. My husband and I enjoy sampling their diverse dishes. From the lasgna to the fresh mozzarella they use in their pasta dishes (the mozzarella is the best I have ever had hands down). The mozzarella is out of this world rich, creamy, light all in one. And let me not forget their delicious bread and gravy (as grandma used to say). Frank is not only a great chef but also unbelievable, warm and friendly host. I truly enjoy this gem in the West Village. The only question I have is when can I expect Gaetana's II? All the best to this great restauranteur and many years of luch in serving your fine food. I know I look forward to eating there often.

    A very pleasing experience

We were visiting our son in NYC and asked him to take us to his favourite neighbourhood restaurant, where it was comfortable, welcoming, good grub and with a bit of NYC atmosphere. Well, Gaetana's fitted the bill precisely and we enjoyed it so much we chose it for our last evening with our son in New York. as well. The food is good and very flavoursome and prepared and served in a non-prissy manner - with the waiters treating you almost as family members. On our first visit, the behind bar televisions were being avidly watched, as one of the city's sports teams were playing and although they lost, Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" was played on the jukebox with the entire restaurant and bar population vociferously joining in. Now that's what we call atmosphere!

    Awesome place

This place is great... I have been here many times since finding it, and everything I have tried so far has been excellent. The pizza is superb, if that's what you are in the mood for. If not, try one of the entrees, which are just as good. Appetizers, such as the stuffed artichoke and stuffed mushroom can't be beat. Also try an espresso martini, made with fresh espresso...

    Gaetana's...Oh poor Gaetana...

We ate here for the first time Sunday September 2, 2007. The place does have that "old world" Italian charm look to it. The "waiter" seems to be the owner also as he was the only person along with the busboy servicing all the tables in the place. The do have great music which is a mix of predominately jazz and adult contemporary. The portions are small to say the least. Do not be in a rush. The bread with the basil, salt, pepper and olive oil dip is outstanding, we went through two baskets-waiting on our dinner order of simple chicken parmigiana and seafood fra di avlo. If your in the neighborhood and want to have a drink and listen to jazz-good place and maybe their pizza is good-it looked good along with the fried calamari other than that I would be suspect of the entrees as a whole. Don't get me wrong the "waiter/owner" was a nice gentleman but he was doing everything, where are the waiters/waitresses? It took A-W-H-I-L-E for our food to be served...Portins are SMALL compared to the price, it seems like all entrees are served on these oval dishes were everything is portioned to sit in the center of the dish. My wife does not want to go back there again for "dinner"; if we do it would most likely ONLY be to try the pizza and the fried calamari. This really could have been a wonderful find in the West Village if a few changes were made.

    Bread is Amazing

Gateana is a great place for a casual italian meal. The bread is absolutely amazing! The waitress explained how they bake it there and my friends and i went through 4 baskets! Delicious!

    Great Neighborhood Standby

This is a great neighborhood Italian standby. Always consistently good food, some of the best choices are the chicken parm and the pizza. Their red sauce is amazing, the kind you don't forget and have an urge for in the middle of the night. The bar is usually busy with regulars at night, definitely adds to the experience. The only problem I have with this place is not food or service related, it's the disgusting block Gaetana's is on. Luckily they deliver so that helps!

    Frank's the Man

My girlfriend and I went into Gaetana's a couple weeks ago. We had previously stayed away bc of the area but this was one of the most pleasant surprises we've had. The food was remarkable, and Frank, the owner, introduced himself and gave us a free plate of delicious cheese and a dessert. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about bc we will definitely be returning and recommending this place. The value can not be beat in the area.
