Great, place old world owner operator wow
The tuna carpaccio is excellent , the gnocchi is the best I have ever had, ever! The wood grilled lamb chops the best in the city. And I had the home made blood orange sorbet. I just book a 80 th birthday party for my family and the owner Mr Gabriel handled all my details himself! Go to Gabriel's

Another wonderful Meal!
My lovely husband took me to Gabriel's last night. We had a wonderful, comforatble meal. Not too fancy; not too "chic on your best behavior." Just warm, comfortable food and service. I enjoyed the beet risotto special and the tuna steak was great. But my husband loved the fettucine with sausage and peppers: a true "homey" meal. Gabriel was his usual charming self. There's a reason so many famous wealthy people eat here!

Bravissimo!
I have been to Gabe's dozens of times: lunch and dinner and a few evenings at the bar. Always delightful. Gabe is the consummate host and the food is always terrific: I favor the tuna steak or the penne with sausage and peppers.. Also, it is always fun to people watch: discreetly of course. I had my niece there one night and could count 3 billionaires! Gabe keeps doing something right!

Appetizers & desserts, etc
The food is overpriced but I disagree that the appetizers and desserts are poor. Their prosciutto & melon appetizer is overpriced but is one of the best (and most creative) I've had at any similarly rated restaurant. Similarly, their tiramisu dessert, although also overpriced, is one of the best I've had at any similarly rated restaurant. As far as main courses go, their butternut squash ravioli with sage and brown butter sauce is wonderful (but also overpriced) and, check in advance for availability, but their special of veal rib chop is top notch. I guess, like most restaurants, the quality of a specific dish depends on what you order, but the dishes I mentioned above are superb !

definitely overrated
I was very disappointed considering the prices. The mussels were small, stringy, and extremely hot. I wondered why they felt necessary to put so much hot pepper in the dish. Mezzaluna was ok, but not exceptional. The only plus was the waiter who continued to fill my water glass, as the mussels were burning my lips.

Totally Overrated
They rate themselves too highly. Food is mediocre, atmosphere is bland, waitstaff is haughty, and prices are ridulous for the quality of the food. The sommelier had so much attitude you could slice it with a knife. $20 for a small plate of pasta with tomato sauce? Am I missing something? Never again. Too many other fine places in the area offering better quality food and service for a lower price.

Very Good
Great restaurant for pre-Lincoln Center dinner. Celebrated my wife's 60th birthday with great food and service. She selected the butternut squash ravioli in brown butter sauce. VG. I had the pappardelle with quail, wild mushrooms and pancetta. Excellent!
