Totally Overrated
They rate themselves too highly. Food is mediocre, atmosphere is bland, waitstaff is haughty, and prices are ridulous for the quality of the food. The sommelier had so much attitude you could slice it with a knife. $20 for a small plate of pasta with tomato sauce? Am I missing something? Never again. Too many other fine places in the area offering better quality food and service for a lower price.

Very Good
Great restaurant for pre-Lincoln Center dinner. Celebrated my wife's 60th birthday with great food and service. She selected the butternut squash ravioli in brown butter sauce. VG. I had the pappardelle with quail, wild mushrooms and pancetta. Excellent!

We had read great reviews of Gabriel's and sounded like a unique Italian restaurant, so we made reservations for late lunch on Monday. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived we received excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. When our meal arrived the presentation was wonderful, but the quality of the dishes varied. The Veal Scaloppini was excellent, but the the scallops and calamari in my pasta Tagliatelle were overcooked, and the Chicken Breast entree stufffed with Prosciutto and Mozzarella was dry and crusty. Frankly, I've had better chicken Cordon Bleu from the frozen food section of the grocery. Perhaps Gabriel's suffers from a Monday syndrome when the regular staff are not around, but given the reviews, I really expected a lot better.

Our favorite NY restaurant
Why is Gabriel's our favorite? Because it's elegant but homey, warm and friendly with unfailingly delicious food. And I have to disagree about the dessert because we dream about that blood orange sorbet!!

Excellent Italian
This restaurant offers some of the best authentic Italian pasta and main courses in the city. The gnocchi are light as air, the polenta is creamy beyond belief and the osso bucco melts in your mouth. That said, skip the dull starters and desserts which are poor by any standard (the starters are largeley limited to salads and the desserts are bland and unimaginative). On a recent visit the service was outstanding - this place is expensive, but if you order carefully it is worth every cent!

Delicious!
I stopped into Gabriel's for the first time ever last night, and the place made a wonderful first impression. This may be a new "occasion" restaurant for me, because it is a little pricey. I had two generous-sized martinis and a pasta entree and left there over $50 lighter (including the tip). I have to say that I'm willing to pay good money for good food and drinks and I felt I got a very good value at Gabriel's. The staff was helpful and courteous, always keeping and eye on you without hovering. I'll be back!

Not run of the mill Italian - Very good
Went last night with 15 other people - - everyone enjoyed their food and wine. This is not the typical run of the mill Italian restaurant. The menu offers interesting food combinations (I had the pasta with a duck confit / tomato sauce), superior ingredients and good wines. The prices are on the higher side, but this was definately a nice treat.
