I've been to the new Gabriela's three times, and have enjoyed the food immensely. The service is slow, but the servers are polite and eager to please. I think this is the best Mexican in the upper UWS, and the atmosphere is great.

I love Gabriela's. Tex Mex is the American version of Mexican food--I don't think anyone who thinks Tex Mex is the goal here is qualified to comment. While Gabriela's has to serve it a bit (most New Yorkers demand it), it's really trying for authentic Mexican food. For instance, they don't use a blender to make their guacamole, and they don't have an extensive selection of burritos with rice and other suspicious ingredients IN the burrito. As a native Californian who grew up near a Mexican neighborhood, I was ecstatic when Gabriela's first opened. It's not the same as the original, but still leaps and bounds better than those places that serve the ridiculously inauthentic "burritos" and other American Mexican food.

In terms of atmosphere, the outdoor seating is the best on the UWS. Designed to feel more like a garden than sidewalk. Good food, hit or miss service. MUCH better guac than the previous Gabrielas, but nothing like rosa mexicano or dos caminos. Relatively cheap, above average food, and outdoor seating.

Visited Gabriela's while in the City, great Watermelon Magarita's & salsa, service is a little slow. If possible on a nice day get a table outside. Will definitely make this a stop when I'm in the City.

Finally quality mex in the W 90's. Service was a little slow, but I think they deserve a little slack since they just opened this space. Food and strong Margaritas were fantastic.

Food was alright - once it finally got to us ALL AT ONCE! It took forever to get an order of guacomole which eventually came AFTER our entrees arrived (it was meant to be an appetizer!) The stuffed shrimp was good though. Service was poor - very slow indeed. May go there again, just for drinks and a snack but perhaps not for dinner. My salad wasn't all that great.

Recently came across Gabriela's new space on Columbus/94th Street. Was excited as this area was in desperate need of a great (or even good) restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was nothing special. In fact, I've made better Tex/Mex at home using grocery store ingredients. While the space is nice and service very accomodating, I wish they had spent more time of the food. I will try it again in about a month. I'm hoping that they had simply cut corners due to the high volume they were experiencing on my visit.
