Best Mexican in the City
Definitely ignore the haters. Some people are impossible to please. I live one block away from Gabrielas, order delivery at least once a week, and take friends to the restaurant regularly. Gabrielas has the best marinated beef, homemade tortillas, and phenomenal salsa. The place is a blessing for our neighborhood. And I grew up in L.A., where we have lots fo great Mexican. Gabrielas is busy and charges a bit of a premium, because it can. Top quality Mexican food, without a doubt.

Great Service, Poor Food
I've grown up on mexican both living in Dallas and enjoying Tex-Mex, to having experience close to the border. This is an embarrassment to the food. The beans, gross. Don't waste your time, the drinks are overpriced and not as good as the other places. Look elsewhere.

Ignore the haters, this place rocks
I've eaten here at least 10 times in the last 6 months and the quality has been consistently excellent. They have 4 or 5 moles available that are some of the best I have ever experienced. Coconut flan is to die for. Also, the tacky decor has a certain charm to it.

Nunca Mas
Decided to give it yet another chance, but nothing has changed. Unfortunately I think that this is one that I must give up. And such a shame, because in it's time nothing in the Upper West Side could touch it.

Miss the old gabriella's....
I remember when they used to have really wonderful menudo on the menu.... they took it off I guess last year and when I looked at the menu, I agree with a previous reviewer.... a lot of the food has become generic mexican that you can get almost anywhere else.

Reconsider
I just went to Gabriela's the other night and I was disapointed to say the least. I got one of the more expensive dishes (carne asada) and the meat was disgusting. There was so much fat on it and it seems as though they tried to cover up the quality of the meat thru heavy dressing. Thisi place just didnt meat my expecations, I would never go back.

An epitaph for Gabriela's
It is heartbreaking when a restaurant serving good ethnic food starts changing the menu to what is perceived as the local taste. When Gabriela started the food was amazing, you could have a variety of dishes such as "Pollo Tipilo" which consists of chicken with mushrooms in a cream sauce, to "Chilaquiles" the spicy tortilla casserole. I used to recommend Gabriela to my out of town friends and it was a place where I loved taking them, because it was "not texmex, or calmex, but mero (true)mex" The last time I visited the menu was such that I could have gone to taco hell, and not known the difference. And so, into my memory I commit another great West Side restaurant that has gone the way of profits.
