i love funayama
i've been going to funayama for a few years now -- one my favorite sushi restaurants of all time. fresh, delicious, generous cuts of fish. delicioius rice, delicious miso soup, really satisfying rolls. a wonderful value with phenomenal service. they are so sweet and attentive! great lunch deals -- just a great restaurant all around. the atmosphere is super lowkey -- nothing trendy, but still a great place to take a date or friends -- or just to dine alone and read a book. i've seen families there too, so i'd say it's family-friendly too (but not in an annoying way). funayama, i love you, truly!

The Fish is Phenomenal
My office has been on 14th in the MPD for 10 years and i started ordering from their takeout menu about 8 years ago. I probably order from them once a week, probably 30-40 times a year. The fish is SO fresh it's hard to understand how they get the quality they do and sell it for their prices. Also i am almost always ordering the lunch special, it's a ridiculous value... look at the menu. I've only been to restaurant once and it's definitely lame looking... i'd rather eat their food at home or the office, but the sushi is top notch.

good sushi good value
I love their seaweed salad and the spicy crunchy combo. Great service and value. The only downside is that its not a very fancy place in terms of ambiance. Ive been going for years and love the place.

Tuna is Amazing!
i dont care what the negative reviews say. i am sitting on my sofa amazed at HOW delicious the tri tuna combo i ordered is. i had them make it a special order so they added a dollar. the spicy tuna roll here is only a sauce they add on and is not mixed INTO the fish so you can seea nd taste the true flavor of the tuna. it is soft, has ZERO smell or fishy taste and there are large pieces! The three pieces of sashimi that come with it are about three inches long and are also excellent quality. Even my miso soup has lots of soft seaweed and a lot of tofu pieces - i love that. I mostly eat tuna and ive had the garden salad here as well. It's also excellent. My friends eat other fish and they loved this place. The decor is very lacking and aged looking - something that would definitely help the restaurant if they fixed it. I have not done all you can eat so I cant speak towards that but from what I have had here (and I have eaten at top places in the city) the sashimi and quality of the fish is incredible. Don't expect style, expect taste and service here. :)
