After years of giving this place chance after chance I am still amazed by how clueless the service is here. Why is this place still open the French Bistro decor, outdoor seating? Perhaps they are taking the French experience to an extreme and just ignore you. The menu of food that never comes is average at best. Seating is intimate, shoulder to shoulder, uncomfortably communal with the, I will say friendly, masses. Save your sanity, save your money for an actual trip to France. This place is only graced by location.

Service is poor with moderate food at best
Stopped in for brunch and the place wasn't very crowded. Took 10 minutes to be seated at the empty table on the sidewalk, 10 more minutes to have our orders taken, which were screwed up, and coffee didn't arrive until after our lukewarm omelettes arrived 20 minutes later. Not worth the space in my stomach. Asked for the check 3 times. It's been a fallback restaurant for the last 10 years but every time I've eaten there in the last 5 years I've just been disappointed.

Not worth the A
Recently, I walked into this restaurant when I saw the A rating certificate posted. I noticed that the Belgian waffle and the fruit that this breakfast item came with cost me $11.50. When my food was served, I was highly disappointed by the quality of my fruit and my waffle was ok. The cantaloupe and honeydew did not look fresh at all. Because I was in a hungry and in a hurry, I succumbed to eating this dish with exception to most of the fruit. Quite frankly, I don't know how this place received an A. The Wafels and Dinges truck serves waffels of better quality and for half the price. I could have purchased two waffles for the price I paid at this establishment. I can't say that I will be returning.

Poorest Customer Service Ever
I can't really rate the food or atmosphere to be fair as we left before we were served. Our party of 3 arrived for lunch and asked to sit outside. Although there were numerous tables for 2 open, the person who greeted us told us we could not sit outside at that time. We then offered to split our party as 2 tables were next to each other. She was obviously not happy about this either but we sat down. She then returned several minutes later and without saying a word literally threw the menus at us and walked off. At that point we got up and left. Having lived in NY for 7 years I have never experienced worse customer service than I did today. Would suggest anyone reading this go elsewhere. Regardless of how good the food is, I would NEVER hand over my hard earned cash to people who treat their customers so poorly.

Always a great deal for the money!
I have been enjoying French Roasts food for years and love to get a good bang for my buck. I am especially fond of the fish specials (eg. Striped Bass & Mushroom Risotto with Truffle Oil - YUM!!). It is the only restaurant in the neighborhood open 24/7 and has saved me on seveal occations (especially now that they also deliver).

Subpar service!
When you are given the check, before the waiter opens the folder, they ask if you want change. I left a $20 bill for a $7 check? Also, there are so many people coming to the table, you are never quite sure who your waiter is. The service may be the worst I've experienced in the neighborhood. I live very nearby and it doesn't feel like a neighborhood place. Very disappointing. The only good thing is that it is 24-hours.

Good Bistro Fare, Lousy Service
French Roast serves good bistro food at a price a little north of what one would expect. The steaks are excellent, the mussels are perfect, and the half dozen or so dishes my girlfriend and I have sampled were always spot-on. However, with all of the available options in the area, the service is inexcusable. all of the waitresses we have had were lazy and aloof, and 3 out of the 5 times we dined there they were rude. It seems as if their main purpose there is to socialize with one another rather than serve their customers. One of them actually had the gall to comment on the 10 percent tip I left. If you're jonesing steak frites or coq au vin, you'll enjoy the meal - just be prepared to wait for it.
