Bad veggie burgers
Veggie burgers for lunch show up like a frisbee, huge and flat, tasting like a pancake, with lots of egg. You can see te vegetable bits but it's messy and not tight. It's like eating a 10lb meal. If you want to gain one pound over night. Blah. Plus the service is just shy of being like a diner, uncaring. Best thing was the photos of all the dogs inside. That's it, sadly.

Disappointed
A few friends told me that this place has great burgers. I beg to differ. Although it was not bad, it was average at best. Even the bun was not that great. It basically falls right apart. I was also there during normal NY dinner hours and it was dead. Not sure I will be back.

pulled pork sandwich...
...order it! it is really delicious, and i never order pork. i don't know what possessed me to order this one day, but it is very tender with great barbecue sauce on a super soft brioche bun. i won't order anything else when i go here! the burgers are good too, but you can get great burgers at so many places on the uws. not true about this delicious sandwich.

Warm surroundings, Excellent Service, Bland Food
We've been to Fred's for brunch and dinner a few times and if nothing else, they're consistent. This below-sidewalk-level, low-key, doggy-decorated neighborhood haunt is warm and welcoming, and the hostesses, wait staff and bartenders are all wonderfully friendly and attentive. The menu is almost strictly typical American fare, with a selection of pasta dishes and an occasional French onion soup. Portions are quite generous. The food is fresh but in dire need of spices! There seemed to be nursing-home blandness to virtually every dish. Of course, you can't expect too much from Meatloaf, Fried or Roast Chicken, etc., but even the Chili was lacking spice! Perhaps our palates are a bit jaded by the myriad of ethnic restaurants in the area. I think Fred's could benefit immensely from more creativity and boldness from their chef. As the Dalai Lama has said, one must approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

a magical brunch...
i wandered into fred's with a friend for brunch on a sunday, after trying to go to sarabeths (and told that there was a 30 minute wait). we went to freds across the street and we were seated immediately. the hostess was a doll, the waitress was very attentive and most importantly our food was simply delicious. they give you wonderful corn muffins to start, and the brunch menu comes with a complimentary mimosa, bloody mary, coffee or juice. i highly recommend this place- go freds!

Fred's is my favorite!
I love Freds! Their delivery is great (they'll put the bun on the side when you order a burger so it doesn't get soggy & their burgers are the yummiest in town), brunch is delicious too, and the vibe at Fred's is homey and comfortable. Whether you're going to brunch with the family, out with friends to watch the game, or out to dinner- Fred's is excellent. Great service, awesome bartenders - really, Fred's should be your favorite too!

Love me some Fred's
So every once and a while people like to spread the Hateorade but ease off on Fred's people! It is clearly one one of the best joints in the neighborhood and after 10+ years they really do a kick *ss up job. The food is consistant (no, not superb, but tasty and fresh) and the staff is always going out of there way to be accomodating. They've got a fan in me forever!
