    Absolutely Flawless

I just ordered for the first time having read the menupages reviews and wanting to see for myself. And true to the reviews Freda's did not disappoint! Please don't change! The food was AMAZING! the portion and value were right on point. And my endless questions met with Informed, helpful, and friendly responses. And in the rain the food arrived hot and in a timely fashion. I can't wait to try eating in!

Awesome!!! Thank you for coming to the UWS ... Long overdue!

Freda's does not disappoint. The food is excellent and reminds you of home cooked. I am a vegetarian and the rice & peas are divine. I tried callaloo for the first time and it was amazing. The roti was a lil dry but had good flavor. Collards and candied yams were not the best but I'm used to southern style. I still rate the food a 5 because what was good was really great, oh and the mac & cheese was the bomb!

No Need for the 2 Train!

So I grew up near Ali's Roti Shop in the Bronx. I recently had to move away from Ali's to Morningside Heights but took solace in the fact that it was on the same train line as I was. I'd constantly search for Trini roti in Manhattan and queries would only turn up people looking for roti in the outer boroughs or the since-closed Roti Plus. I thought it was hopeless, but the other night I did another search in vain only to discover a new restaurant called Freda's on Columbus, just one ave over from Bombay Frankie's! This roti may have Ali's beat! for $7 I had what should have been two meals had i not been wanting it so badly! Three vegetable options (potato-chana counting as one!) in that big flaky roti skin i miss so much! Too often i run into roti skins that end up just being generously-spiced tortillas! I was offered my money back if this wasn't exactly what i was looking for but i promise i will be spending more and more without concern!

    Finally!

We have ordered several meals from Freda's, both with meat and vegetarian dishes and we have not been dissapointed. There jerk chicken is HOT, so be ready. Their sides are all good and the quantity is great for the cost. I will admit that they did not give me one of the sides I ordered once, but happily included in the meal free of charge the next I ordered from there.

    Welcome to UWS!!

My sister and I discovered freda's about a month ago and we are hooked! They sure know how to cook....the stew chicken is amazing. The sides are great and you get plenty. Try the callaloo! A great addition to the neighborhood!

    Great Food and Great Value

Recently enjoyed a great meal at this new spot serving Jamaican specialties like jerk and brown stewed chicken. Portions are large and come with plenty of tasty sides, plus the prices are very reasonable. Check Freda's out - it's a real deal.

    Welcome to the UWS!

So we've been waiting for Caribbean food in the UWS and it has arrived. Good portions, excellent flavors - well seasoned and authentic West Indian fare. The cabbage & carrots could use some extra red pepper. The jerk chicken, shrimp roti and stewed chicken were excellent. Baked mac & cheese was surprising. Candied yams were good. We hope the restaurant sticks around for awhile - and keeps the same level of quality!
