The food here is the right mix of homemade and gourmet. The prices are so cheap, if I lived nearby I'd never cook again!

I've ordered from this place twice now. I have never been to the location. The food is delicious! The staff is super down to earth. You would not know you're in NYC. It's like they're your private kitchen. The owner of the restaurant just delivered my food for me. I love supporting local establishments. Just be patient with them. It may take a while for the food to arrive, and they don't always do things in the established way. But it's worth the wait.

I stumbled upon this place one day after leaving the hair salon which is one block over. I stopped in and had the oxtails, greens, & yams. WOW! I really, really enjoyed it. And it was so much that i didn't finish it all, and had some for lunch the next day (which was a monday ugh!). But this place has now become a apart of my weekly, (or bi-weekly depending on my hairstyle) salon visit. Get my Hair done and stop by Freda's. So anyway I visit a friend on the UWS and wanted to see if I was in their delivery range because I wanted my friends to try the food. We were on 80th & Columbus. I'm technically out of range, but they guy on the phone was really sweet and said he'd deliver it anyway. He arrived a little while later with our food. We had roti, oxtail, jerk chicken, and curry chicken. We all tasted a little bit of this and a little bit of that. All of my friends are now Freda's converts!! I love this little place, I want them to be successful, but I kinda want to keep it a secret too. lol. go Freda!

Great Caribbean food and value. Atmosphere is plain just like if one was on some joint on an island. No pretense. The jerk chicken, peas and rice, and fried plantains hit the spot. The vegetable roti was fabulous too. Highly recommend. Wanted a Jamaican meal before leaving NYC and here it is right in the neighborhood.

When I saw this place I was so excited, finally a Caribbean place in the neighborhood. I asked for a takeout menu. They had just opened so they didn't have any, but gave me their phone number anyway. I was told after 6 they would have delivery. I called around 6p. I was told they didn't have any delivery people but they would in 1/2 hour so they took my # and called me back. I hadn't ordered some where else yet so I tried it. The owner explained she was delivering it herself so could I come downstairs and pick it up. Well this kind of defeats the purpose of delivery. I was pregnant and really wanting stew chix so I said ok. They food took a while to come but it was VERY good. A couple weeks later I figured I would try them again, thinking maybe they hired a delivery person. No such luck, but she did send a friend of hers, still asking could I come down. This time the food was dry and the chix didn't smell too good, like it had been sitting. I didn't even eat it. Also $9 wasn't enough for a delivery so I had to order extra food. Most places in the neighborhood have a $8 or even $7 minimum. $9 is more than enough to come 4 blocks. Although I love Caribbean food and order out a lot, I have NEVER ordered from them again.

I walked in and ordered take-out. After 15 minutes, it was clear that they had forgotten my order, so I pestered them in the kitchen. 15 more minutes pass. I am about to leave in frustration when the owner calls me down and says "wait, your food's ready." Besides the wait, I am a very unhappy customer for the following reasons: (1) The take-out portion is literally about half the size of the dining-in portion. Terrible value. (2) The person at the register cannot do math - according to the menu, my total should have added up to $9.50. She charged me $10.00. I planned to let them keep the change anyway, so I did not object. She is not a devious person, but be careful - you may be getting ripped off. (3) Even though the dinners come with rice and two sides, and even though I specifically ordered two sides, they only included one. Once again, I don't think they were trying to rip me off. They were just incompetent. The food quality was average. To be fair, the jerk chicken was delicious - it was well spiced and the meat literally melted off the bones. The rice, however, managed to be soggy and dry at the same time, rendering it practically inedible. The collard green was old and too sweet. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are so many better options in the neighborhood. If you are not dining in, you might as well be throwing your money away.

This place is INCREDIBLE! Finally, there is a great family restaurant that serves incredible Caribbean food in the neighborhood! The owner is the nicest, most accommodating person. The family is incredibly warm and gracious - and you must get the goat roti! Incredible! And the best part - it's a ton of food for a low price! Even the desserts are great - the sweet potato pie is fantastic! Love them! Want them to stay open forever!
