Don't come up in here with the coolshine stuff...lol. That's how I felt upon entering this spot; like I was in my granny's bootlegging spot. If you are looking to be impressed with anything beyond the food, keep it pushing. Lawd 'a Mercy: The oxtails, stewed chicken were fall of the bone tender and delicious; the callaloo with okra was zee bomb; the rice and peas, though a little overcooked for your mama, was ample enough to absorb the wonderful sauces that accompanied the meats and; the mac & cheese's southern roots mustered enough flavor to stand proudly next to the west indian delights that otherwise dominated the meal. Ms. Freda, the owner's deceased mother from what we were told, must be proud. Let me up in that kitchen honey!

I order from Freda's a lot but as of late the delivery service has been below par. I seem to be put on hold 3 or 4 times. I'm actually waiting for my food right now..Its been over an hr. And I just heard the ring.

Freda's food is what you're looking for if you want a decent west indian meal. As a Trinidadian, who grew up in Brooklyn, I couldn't find any good west indian restaurants once I moved to Harlem. I was on menupages one day and read the reviews about this place & thought I would try it. The food was pretty good for my standards, and the portions are really generous too. The oxtails were great! You will not be disappointed!

First, we were pleased to find a Caribbean restaurant, near to Manhattan. The foods presentations were great. The taste of the curry chicken, jerk chicken and curry goat were all nicely seasoned, and excellent tasting. We surely will be shopping there again. Freda just needs to improve on their delivery hours.

The food and pricing continues to be the stars at this local restaurant. Our party of 4 visited again last night for the 5th time and everything was the same, the food was very consistent flavorful and plentiful. Hot and authentic. Unfortunately the service was the same and not in a good way. They always seem to be occupied with unrelated things such as outside smoking a cigarette, talking on their cell and more concerned about deliveries than in house customers. They attempted to place our cutlery on a dirty table and never took our beverage orders. We helped ourselves from the cooler. The food was definitely the star of the evening, Fried Shrimp, Oxtails and Curried Goat were excellent. Mac & cheese was very good and the yams were too sweet, we were bouncing off the wall for several hours afterwards. The pricing was fantastic for a party of 4 full dinner in NYC. Frieda served our food and thanked us for coming again! Certainly the takeout service is superior to the in house. We recommend take out and in house if you have a strong dose of patience and time.
