Only been here once, made a special trip for the burger. Best burger I've had in NYC -- good sear, beefy taste, juicy as hell. What's nuts though is it's only available at lunch and they don't have fries. They don't serve fries, even on the side -- what bar food place doesn't have fries? You get a pickle. Still, the people there seem pretty nice. Nice old NY-y tavern feel.

We brunch in Red Hook regularly on the way to Fairway. Been dying to try Fort Defiance and stopped in yesterday. The ambiance is great, love the furniture! The food, unfortunately was lacking. First, our coffee arrived in cups that had been sloshed so they were dripping down the sides -- can happen to anyone but was off-putting. Ordered the Dutch Apple pancake and the American with eggs over-easy and ham! Pancake resembled an overdone soufle--sort of rubbery! The eggs were overdone and then the small plate was heaped with eggs, potatoes, ham and toast all piled on top of each other -- not very appealing. The restaurant wasn't crowded, can't blame the deficiencies on volume. Sorry, but we probably won't go back, not a good value for the money ($30), couple of other restaurants on the block with better value!

Stopped here for a quick lunch the other day- great atmosphere- great details- great sandwich! The rest of the menu looks good- fairly priced. The whole place has a great look- definitely will be stopping by for dinner/ lunch/ cocktail soon. Redhook is where its at!
