    A Definite Find!!

After spending a day shopping on Canal Street, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon forlini's restaurant on baxter street, and am so glad we did! Derek, one of the owners, recommended that we try their "gourmet dinner" -- an unbelievable amount of really good food for the money...a baked clams, mussels and other antipasta appetizer, a second dish consisting of three different kinds of pasta, a main dish consisting of three different dishes-chicken, veal and shrimp, and coffee and desert, all for about $40 a person, which is such a reasonable price for what is really a tremendous amount of food!! We left with our doggie bags and a new knowledge of the history of Forlini's told to us by Derek who really made us feel entirely welcome, just like family. We will definitely be back very soon!!

    Great Food and Service

Based on reviews and recommendations, gave it a try. The staff was exceptional and the food was excellent and very well priced. Had the clams casino (it wasn't what I ordered, but decided to stick with it as it looked good) and a veal chop stuffed with prosciutto and swiss - both were very good. The place itself is very dated and needs to be remodeled. I was very concerned walking in on a Saturday night at 7:30 and being only one of two tables. As I had some out-of-towners with me, I probably would look for someplace a bit more showy for a first meal in NYC, but would definitely come back knowing I could walk in without a reservation and get a very good meal.

    Great authentic Northern Italian Fare

I have been going to Forlini's for almost thirty years, and the food is an excellent example of true northern italian fare.Although the atmosphere has changed over the years, the food and service remain great, and the prices are moderate compared to comparable resturants throughout the city. I highly recommend this place...put it on your favorites list.

    A Refreshing Place

I was walking through Chinatown yesterday traveling the length of Canal St., from DeBrosses, and was looking for a place to cool down. Turned down Baxter St. from Canal St.,and there it was, an Oasis amid the heat. Stepped up to the bar and was met by a friendly bartender who quenched my thirst with a Dewers and water. After watching the Yankees lose, Scott Proctor walked in two runs (the Angels went on to a 4-3 win) I decided to take in some sustinance. A fine menu, great variety of meats and seafood, pastas and appetizers, along with competitive prices, made for a good time. I highly recommend this place. A few more Dewars and waters I was on my way, having spent a quiet wonderful afternoon in New York. A treasure hidden among the clutter!

    Old style charm

After reading reviews, decided to bring my wife for dinner. We had never been, and stopped in Friday at about 9pm. I was a bit skeptical as we were seated immediately, and it was not busy at all. We started with a carafe of the house red, and hot delicious bread came out quickly. I had grilled pork chops and my wife had a chicken dish. Both were prepared well, not heavy at all and plenty of food. The resteraunt has an old charm, and we had a good experience all for about $60.00.

    It's the best

My husband and I accidently happened upon this restaurant while in Chinatown. Ducked in for a drink and ended up spending an hour or so talking to Derek, one of the owners. Went back two nights later specifically to eat dinner. It was awesome. We are going back in April '07 and it is definitely a place on our itinerary. We liked it so much that we will be taking friends there with us this time. Staff was awesome, food was absolutely delicious, atmosphere is truly great. Make it a point to go there and see the place.... very interesting. Definitely worth your time and money!

    Forlini's - what a great place

just what you're looking for - great food, few tourists, the feel of being back in time - I was not looking for a family-style place with lots of children, this was just great - you could tell by conversations, that lots of locals frequent this restaurant - loved it
