Selling their old food for take-out.

I used to love Floridita. I ordered many a time and for many family occasions. After not going for a while, a few weeks ago I went on a Tuesday evening for take-out and ordered the steak. It was terrible! The meat was grey and rubbery. The, supposed to be, twiced fried plantains were hard as a rock. They tasted like they fried them once, a week ago, and then just stuck them in a container right out of the fridge when I ordered them. Sad to say I gave them another chance last Thursday and was disappointed again and actually made ill. I ordered the Daily special of Broiled Pork chops to go. After asking me if I wanted broiled pork chops a 3 times the server finally put in my order. I should have suspected something was up when the order was brought out to me in less than 5 minutes. When I opened the dish instead of chops (plural) I got 1 thick chop that was covered with a thick coating of onions, pepper and tomatoes (I guess I was lucky to only get one). When I tasted it, it tasted as if (again) it had been in the back of the fridge for a week after being cooked. It was dry and hard and overly salted. I ordered yellow rice and black bean on the side. The "yellow" rice was a bright unnatural shade of orange and was extremely salty. The beans were grainy and salty. Being hungry I tried to man-up and eat the meal but I could not make it. Even though I did not finish the meal I still had a bit of abdominal distress for a couple of days after. Avoid the take-out.

The Best Cafe con Leche you will find

Floriditas food is OK. It is not the best or the worst. If you are in the mood for some spanish food and cant get to Malecon then i suppose you can stop here. I dont reccomend it as your first choice though. The service is good. The atmosphere is nice. The taste and quality of the not the best, its as if something is missing. All that said their cafe con leche is the best I have ever had.

    Value in volume

The old timers know to order off of the daily special, which are invariably yummy and economical. In terms of the food itself - this place is brimming with volume, but with how little they charge, the food is not always 5 star. However, I think their soups are fantastic. With the amount of food you get, you are set for 2 meals with a Special dishes that runs way < $10. By the way, I heard horror stories of some very hard pancakes so stay away from them. PS: they also have very delicious oatmeals, not at all like the Quaker type.

    Disappointed

I've never really been to a Cuban restaurant that I didn't like but this was the first! I went there for take out. I ordered the Pollo Floridata with white rice and black beans. The chicken was dry and the black beans were just okay. I also order the Croquetas De Pollo but they gave me the Croquetas De Jamon. I didn't find out until I was home and bit into it. I ended up having to throw it out because I don't eat pork. The service was slow and the food was overpriced.

    Uptowns little secret.

I have been going for 12years and food is great. You can order the lunch special at anytime of the day. The food is dominican and owned by dominicans. The closest it comes to cuban food is a cuban hero. The help are really nice but they do deal with language barrier. The place has a strong local following but soon it will change since more money and gringos are move in. So expect higher prices and smaller portions.
