Flor de Sol

My mother arrived on time for a 6:30pm dinner. Though 75% of the restaurant was empty, the hostess refused to sit my mother, a senior citizen, at a table. Instead, the hostess directed my mother to sit at the bar and order a drink. My mother informed her that she felt uncomfortable sitting at the bar alone and would rather sit at a table. The hostess refused to accommodate her. I arrived at 6:40 to find my mother standing in the street, while most of the restaurant was empty. When we left at 8:30pm, 60% of the restaurant was still empty. While I understand the business' decision to sit customers at the bar during busy periods, the restaurant manager and hostess exercised poor judgement applying this policy during a very quiet period such as this Memorial Day holiday weekend, especially with a senior citizen. Moreover, the food was average. In short, we walked away with a negative impression of the restaurant.

Birthday dinner at this location was a bitter one. The only reason we went to this restaurant was because Son Cubano is currently closed and being a sister restaurant we hoped it could be a nice place regardless of the bad reviews. The service was full of bad attitude, instead of making our experience a better one, acting as though we were the ones with the problem when our check wasn't arriving. An example among other things was instead of serving flan as the birthday dessert, they gave me tres leches. When it was brought to their attention they made it seem as if it was the same thing! The worst of the worst was when we called to speak to the manager, the response was: 'he is currently having dinner with a very important client and he is not available -so what do you want me to do?' A business makes loyal customers because of the welcoming staff and the food among some key things. This restaurant will not get far if they keep this kind of people as staff. In addition, the food was bland. The drinks were okay and our waiter would often disappear. Once the manager finally finished his 'important dinner', he tried to keep the peace but at that point, our mind was already made-up. It took only one person to make our first and last visit an unpleasant one and from there on, it was just downhill to the food on to the whole experience. Need less to say we will never again step foot at this place.

This was my 2nd visit to Flor de Sol, and it again was a great dining experience from great service to great food. We ordered tapas as well as entrees, and the food was amazing. The only thing I did not care for was the empanadas. Recoomendations: croquetas de jamon, garlic shrimp, coconut shrimp (delicious!!!). Tres Leches cake ---- You must try this! We also has the paella primavera and it was fantastic - very flavorful. Also, I would recommend skipping the sangria. Disappointing. Overall, Flor de Sol offers a great dining experience and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

My friend and I came here on a Tuesday night for dinner and the place was less than half full. We ordered three tapas: crab claws with garlic sauce (our favorite so good, we were dipping pieces of bread in the sauce to soak up every ounce), chicken croquettes (pretty good and creamy, the outside breading was not too thick so it didn’t distract from the taste) and patatas bravas (ehh, it was ok, more like boiled potatoes in a somewhat spicy saucy soupy thing.wouldn’t get it again). Our waiter was not that great: he messed up our order and brought us the wrong sole and when we pointed it out he didn’t do anything to compensate. I also got the cod with the clams and shrimp. the clams were very salty and overall the dish would have been better had they lightened up on the salt. I saw reviews how people were raving about the tres leches sponge cake. well the cake was still half frozen or too cold. The center of the cake was gummy and stuck together but as you ate towards the crust, it was more spongy and soft like the normal texture of cake. Would recommend the tapas over the entrees if I came back.

I came here recently on a wednesday night with two girlfriends for dinner. I had the ham croquettes, meatballs and the cheese platter. Everything was delicious! Our server was great and we particulary enjoyed the live flamenco dancing. For dessert we all shared a tres leches cake that was incredible!!! I must say, better than mom makes. Sshh! In all, we definitely got our moneys worth. Will be coming again, this time maybe with a special someone.

i had been wanting to go this place for a long time....i am sorry to say but was really disappointed...i have been to so many spanish food places...and the food is sooo good...this place has a nice ambience and feel to it...but the food just spoilt everything....they told me they just had a new chef- bad decision...they need to go back to the old one or get some other chef....and they do charge a lot for this horrible food....i will definitely not recommend this one...

Went on a whim and were not dissapointed. Service was great and we were seated right away. Tapas plates were the chicken in wine sauce, shrimp in lime and the octopus in a spicy tomato sauce which had a touch of heat. Then we had the seafood salad and the broiled seafood mix. Dessert was the sorbet. Everything was so flavorful and really great...we left full and portions were all a good size. I would go back to try more items.
