Flor De Mayo

The food at the Chinese-Latino restaurant is outstanding. The fusion works very well. Several of the people who work there are Chinese who emigrated to Peru and then to New York. One of our favorites is Aji de gallina, a very garlicky and creamy chicken stew served on a lettuce leaf with salad and rice. The rice is very tasty and well cooked as is all the food at Flor de Mayo. Try the brocolli sauted with fresh garlic, the spicy fish soup, a papa relleno, or Tallarin Saltado. The last mentioned is spagetti well mixed with sauted steak, green peppers, onions and tomatoes - hearty and delicious! The clients are regulars who like to enjoy this excellent cuisine frequently. The restaurant also has a salt water fish tank with a mixture of beautiful tropical fish. Many waiters and clients are deeply involved with the fish and follow their development.

The food is super; This time I had a Peruvian 1/2 chicken (Pollo a la Brasa) with sweet plantains. The chicken was fresh and moist and tasted like it was marinated in butter... super. The sweet plantains are the best I ever had. sweet, crunchy caramel taste on the outside and soft and tastes like ripe bananas should on the inside. much much better then "el Malekon" that can't be compared to this. My wife has a Wonton soup that she says was the best she had in a long time; and shrimp she said was very good. We had egg custurd (Flan) and chineese tea for desert. Service was very quick and efficiant. We will be back, as we are regulars for the last 5 years...

The lunch specials are outta sight. I got a heaping plate of beef, plantains and salad for less than $6 and on a saturday, too! The atmosphere leaves much to be desired, but the food value makes up for it considerably. A great UWS bargain.

If what you are looking for is good chinese mixed with some Latino flavor this is the place! Their boneless fried chicken is great and Bistec a la Plancha with Moro rice and sweet plantains always hit the spot.

I have been going to the original flor de mayo on 101 Street and Broadway for 20 years. The food is the absolute best everytime I go. Regardless where I move to I always go back to flor de mayo for dinner at least once a week. Everyone who comes to new york should definitely check this restaurant out.

Flor de Mayo is yummy. I go here with my boyfriend almost every week. I am addicted to their Monday peruvian special, which is chicken served with cilantro rice. It is very tasty. The service is also great. I like how they refill your water every 5 minutes. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a nice cheap meal.
