you can always count on flor

i am in love with a man who lives in nyc. he flies me down from canada about once a month, and we always eat at "flor". We have been to all the fancy restaurants in zagat's top 10 list, and know what nyc has to offer. flor is not a fancy dig. but it does have wonderful aquariums. it is a great low-key place to hang out. the staff is extremely friendly... always serves us with a smile, and the food gets to the table fast. our favorites are the ceviche de pescado and the lomo saltado... we like the fried sweet plantains, and on occasion have their signature roasted chicken dish. we like to get their veggie dishes, chinese broccoli, string beans and the like. if you are in the upper west side, and want to find a place for good food, good value, and happy times... you can always count on flor. p.s. we never review restaurants, but we feel we must for flor. enjoy.

    Always good!

This place is HOT. It's always packed and for good reason. The food is delicious. All of the dishes I've tried are very tasty and the portions are big enough for two people to share. The boneless chicken chunks are so tasty and juicy. The Chinese dishes are good as well. This place never disappoints!

    A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

I have been a customer for yearrrrsss and I can honestly say I've tried about 3/4's of their menu and not once have I ever been disappointed. I love their Peruvian dishes...took the risk of trying peruvian food one day and what do you know ..AMAZING...very in expensive and great value. If you'd like to get drunk, just try their Nutcraker drink....you'll be saying 'I love you' in no time.

    Good Food

The restaurant is very small so expect long lines to get a seat on friday and Saturday night. The drinks are great

The best chicken, plantains and sangria

I wandered into Flor de Mayo 6 years ago and have probably eaten there well over 200 times. There are three things to go there for: The rotisserie chicken, the fried sweet plantains and the sangria. There are other things I really like there (arroz verde, tallarines verdes, papas a la arequipena, lomo saltado, calimare with devil sauce - many good things), but the chicken stands out. It is so moist, tender and perfectly seasoned with a spicy jalapeno type dipping sauce on the side. The plantains are straight from heaven. Perfectly caramelized on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. The sangria is a mixture of wine and triple sec, I think. It's full of fruit, really delicious and a pitcher can put 3 people under the table. True, the atmosphere is utilitarian and the service, while being very good is a bit hasty. But, while service is quick, I have never felt rushed out the door, even if that's where the line is extending.

A Customer for some 30 years

Since Flor De Mayo's inception on B'way and 82nd St., some decades ago, to their expansion on the UWS, I have been a very satisfied customer. They have always come thru', whether party- catering to a crowd or delivering for one. My personal favorite part of the menu is the Spanish food section; Camarones Asados, with its beautiful bbq-like sauce, Shredded Beef likewise, Chickenliver w. Green Pepper, always perfectly cooked and sesasoned. Well , you'll sure to have your very own favorites that never disappoints. For my $$; the convenience, their fast and friendly service (inhouse or delivery), great taste of the food and their longevite, I award 5 out 5 stars! ***** A.Heller--A Very Satisfied and Grateful Customer
