Went here the other night with a date. Had high hopes after reviews. Was disappointed. Please see below: 1) Ordered a bottle of wine, but it wasn't warm. They were nice enough to bring us free glasses of other wine while we were waiting, but were left wineless after for around 10 minutes. When the wine we ordered came, it was still not cold 2) We ordered the crabcake to start. The waiter told us we could have another crabcake (the appetizer only has 1) for an extra $4. However, when they brought it out there was one and waiter told us the chef wouldn't do so because it would affect the "presentation." The crabcake was tiny, with the circumference of about a silver dollar 3) The fries were very good. The mussells were okay. Smaller portions than I had thought (if this is 1lb then the mussels you get at the countless french bistros on the UES much be at least 3lbs) We got one with chorizo, however I only counted 3 little pieces of it. 4) For dessert we ordered an apple pie type thing. A) It tasted like it was just heated up in a microwave B) There was one little globule of cream next to it. Need a bit more to satiate my palete. The menu looks good from the outside, but was not executed well. Could be good with time

A relaxed but cool seaside elegance that perfectly sets the stage for the superb shellfish and seafood. Flex has a great buzz when you arrive. The front is alive with the sound of the cocktail shaker, enthusiastic conversation, and the cheery greeting everyone gets from the owners. The bar and side counters were lined with diners enjoying platters of ocean-fresh oysters and clams presented with four excellent sauces. (I prefer a squeeze of lemon and a crunch of fresh black pepper. Mmmm!) The air is filled with wonderful aromas emanating from big steaming bowls of PEI mussels - the stars of the show. Our group started with oysters and clams, excellent seafood chowder and the crab cakes. We followed with Mussels Provencal style, and Peking Duck style (fascinating!) and superb fish and chips. Everything tastes Fresh Fresh Fresh! A very well chosen and nicely priced wine list yielded a crisp Muscadet, an elegant Austrian Zierflander, and a refreshing Quincy - unusual wines perfectly suited to Flex's kitchen. Desserts were delicious. This is the perfect neighborhood fish joint - friendly, inviting, lively, delicious and affordable. Highly recommended!

I went to Flex Mussels with my girlfriend and another couple on saturday night which was apparently only its 3rd night open. We were shown a table in the modern looking dining room at the back and were taken care of by the waitstaff from the moment we sat down. Our waiter was very attentive and happy to make reccomendations on both food and wine, yet was not overly fussy or annoying. As a starter we shared a portion of mussels and also a mixed calamari, oyster, and shrimp dish called 'burnt fingers'. For entree I had Fish and Chips, and as an English person I have to say that it was excellent and equal to anything I would expect to get at home. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the chips were especially good..thin cut, with a very light herb sprinkling. My girlfriend had a lb of mussels which were very well prepared and in a delicious thai green curry sauce along with those amazing fries. We also had a nice bottle of Californian Pinot Noir which was very reasonably priced. To cap it all off, the executive chef came out to our table to ask how everything was. I was extremely impressed by the quality of service and food at Flex Mussels and will definitely be going back.

I just ate at Flex and had an absolutely delicious mussel meal. Not only was the restaurant re-done to perfection but the staff was kind and very accomadatable. I would highly recommend checking this new restaurant out and definitely order the mussels. Amazing
