    Great food lousy service

Food was excellent exactly what I expected. A friend told me about it so my boyfriend and I had to check it out. The waitress we had was subpar rarely checked in and we were convinced she just wanted to go home. They need to seriously check their staff and when that comes together it will be amazing.

    I was underwhelmed

It was very crowded, but we had a reservation and were seated right away. Awesome. I enjoyed the calamari dish, though as stated below, it could use a couple more shrimp and oysters. The mussels were a bit of a disappointment. They were a little overdone, so not as moist and succulent as they should have been but not rubbery. But worse, there was very little broth. That's one of my favorite things about mussels is sopping up the yummy broth. Given the fact that mussels cost virtually nothing, I think the restaurant could be a little more generous in that area. donuts were very good

Delicious food, great staff, much improved!

I went to Flex Mussels when it first opened a few months ago and was underwhelmed. I gave it another try last night though and was blown away- they really made incredible improvements! It was super crowded on a Thursday night at 8pm but luckily I made a reservation in advance so we were seated right away. The food was great- I had the crab cake appetizers (a little lemony but still delicious) and the Bisque mussels. My friend got the Bruschetta mussels. The Bisque mussels were so rich and flavorful with a good amount of lobster meat. The Bruschetta was also good, fresh and garlicy. Our waiter was very attentive and really enhanced the experience for us. We will be going back!

    Very good

We sat at the bar. It was 6PM and the front area was crowded but not in a bad way. Ordered the chowder, Funghi Mussels and Fries. Enjoyed it all. Mussel prices are $18-$20+ so the above price mention is outdated. Service was excellent. Though we didn't order it they served a 4-6 filled donuts with dipping sauce dessert that looked really tasty. Looking forward to going back to try other various mussel dishes. Funky cool decor and vibe.

    Be prepared to wait

The mussels were amazing, but be prepared to wait - even with a reservation. We had a reservation for 6 people on a Saturday night and still had to wait 45 minutes before we were seated. When we complained to the manager, he seemed to say that it was normal for such a large party. 6 people is large? The best thing about this place is the desserts.

    Love Flex Mussels

I consider myself a lover of seafood, so when Flex opened downtown, I had to try it. The entire meal was amazing. The oysters were so fresh and fantastic and the mussels were incredible. The restaurant's ambiance only added to our enjoyable meal. Our waiter was attentive and the food was delish. Must try the Acadian mussles! Plus, as an added bonus the desserts were mind blowing. Will be back!

Not as good as the UES location

I went to Flex Mussels on 13th Street last night having been to the Upper East Side location many times. I must say that our server was absolutely fantastic- she made great recommendations and was extremely attentive. Unfortunately, the food was not as good as the uptown location. The "Burnt Fingers" appetizer only had 2 oysters and 2 shrimp, so it was basically a small pile of fried mediocre calamari. The Goat Cheese salad only had 3 tiny slivers of beets on it. The Lobster Roll (my typical go-to at Flex Mussels uptown) had an overpowering taste of lemon juice and had no taste otherwise which was extremely dissapointing. My friends really enjoyed the mussels though- they ordered the Maine and San Daniele flavors. Aside from the food not being *quite* as good as the uptown location, the smell of garlic in the restaurant was overwhelming. There is absolutely no ventilation which resulted in all of us leaving the restaurant completely stinking of garlic.
