Columbus day
I came to NYC for the Columbus Day Parade and got to see the Latin American Festival Parade as well. Both were enjoyed from a large window at Fives Restaurant where the atmophere, service and fare were fabulous. I don't know who other reviewers are, but I had a wonderful experience and was invited to stay as long as I wanted watching the parades. The Cobb Salad was creative and the Cheesecake and Tea were for the gods! Thank you, Peninsula Hotel for being such fine hosts.

Unexpectedly Bland
My wife and I recently dined at Fives. We were very disappointed in the blandness of the experience. Firstly, the restaurant could be described as "multi-functional" - one could imagine the tables being whisked away and powerpoint slides being projected on the walls for an audience of consultants. In all seriousness, the room was cold, uninspiring, and lacking any atmosphere. We felt as if we were at any random hotel chain - not the Peninsula. The food was fresh and well-prepared, however the menu was as uninspiring as the room. It really did appear as if the head chef had taken the day off and what had appeared on the menu was the basic choices of the rest of the kitchen staff.

Delicious & fresh food, perfect atmosphere
Came here for Restaurant Week, and wasn't expecting the full experience - hey, it's Restaurant Week. Loved Fives. The atmosphere is perfect - tables are set far away from each other for privacy, and we sat in large black leather chairs. The service was good. And - the food was - AMAZING. Still thinking about the pasta appetizer I had. The pasta was fresh and savory, with some sort of stewed game, it was delicious. The chicken entree was juicy & flavorful. Dessert was forgettable but I enjoyed it. Would definitely go back!

Not recommended
The title sums it up: beautiful atomosphere, sub-par food and so-so servive, making the value factor pretty poor. Quite surprising, given the otherwise top of line quality of The Peninsula Hotel. Wouldn't go back.

Disappointing
I came to fives with some family and was completely underwhelmed. I do have to say the restaurant itself was very nice, but unfortunately the food and service was below average. I ordered the beef medallions. The cut of the meat was a low quality and it was lacking taste. I was surprised that a restaurant like this would serve such a low grade. My wife had the cod which was fair at best. The service was not much better; the waiter was pretty absent and never really came back after the meal was served. It’s too bad, as the restaurant does have potential.
